U.S. prosecutor says UAW still not cooperating
DETROIT The U.S. Attorney leading the investigation of corruption within the United Auto Workers told Reuters on Friday the unions leadership still is not fully cooperating with the government, but that individuals are giving federal investigators tips that could expand the probe.
The deadline is now for UAW leadership to be more open with investigators looking into corruption within the union, Matthew Schneider, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, said in an interview.
Mr. Schneider said a federal takeover of the UAW is among the options available, but the governments investigation of individuals linked to misuse of union funds and other impropriety is his priority.
With more tips of possible UAW wrongdoing coming in from the public, Mr. Schneider said we just dont know how long it will take to finish the investigation.
