United States military officials said they were investigating whether Army cadets and Navy midshipmen had flashed hand symbols associated with hate groups at their football game on Saturday.
A broadcast showed cadets from the United States Military Academy and midshipmen from the Naval Academy in the stands displaying the sign at least five times behind ESPN broadcaster Rece Davis at the game, which was held at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Saturday.
President Trump attended the game and met with players in both locker rooms before the game.

(17,865 posts)Maybe the investigation will show other activities that support racism.
Basically it is a gang symbol without being a gang symbol. The excuse trotted out is that it is a long standing game that has nothing to do with racism.

(41,992 posts)A very public look at these guys, having a conversation with them, inviting them to participate in a non-punitive look at what they did, what they meant and why people were upset at the prospect of cadets flashing a hate sign. Beat them without bashing them.
Whether they did or didnt, approaching it this way denies anyone victimhood, educates the public about why this would be very dangerous and foolish, and gives the chance for Army to say This is now considered by many to be hate speech. Never, ever, ever do it. You will not be able to claim ignorance. We are all Americans and deserve consideration and care.
