There was a time when Alan Dershowitz was referred to as a "liberal Harvard professor."
Then he became a consultant on the O.J. Simpson trial and people scratched their heads, wondering what happened to his brain.
Now Dershowitz is regularly on TV defending the orange creature. I guess he sees it as his O.J. trial 2.0. It's disgusting. And what's even more disgusting is that Dershowitz regularly defends virtually every wing nut piece of insanity that Republicans put forth. It's his right to do so. But it's a mystery why he threw away his position of high respect, along with his conscience, morality, and plain human decency.
This morning, I was watching Harvard professor Lawrence Tribe on A.M. Joy. His calm demeanor and his words of wisdom are comforting. But he admits that America is in a moment of great peril which we will be fortunate to survive. This is a man who has retained his thoughtfulness, morality and decency in a time of, what can only be called, an era in which evil rules. Nonetheless, Lawrence Tribe is a breath of fresh air.
Dershowitz might as well be out there saying, "If the false news fits, you must acquit."
Tribe is trying to bring sanity to a world gone mad.
The difference between these two men is stark. But it seems that even esteemed institutions such as Harvard have their dark side. Dershowitz will end up on the ash heap of history. Tribe will forever be a giant among those who grasp the nature of greatness.

(37,364 posts)I stay on MSNBC to see Tribe and Maya Wiley, Jill Wine-Banks, Barbara McQuade, and Joyce Vance. They really do have top scholars.

(15,041 posts)been on MSNBC and CNN occasionally. Some of the hosts believe they need a mindless tool to create conflict, and then do their best to make a fool of him/her. (They often fail to neutralize the garbage that they're wingnut guests have been allowed to throw out there.)
I believe that people such as Dershowitz, and so many others of his ilk, should be denied air time on reputable shows, in which they can spew their filth into the camera.
Nonetheless, it seems that TV ratings are a deciding factor in allowing crazies to fling shit into the camera.

(6,855 posts)I can accept that. But it does appear that men harming women are more frequently his clients of choice. Its not as if he has to take these cases. Hes not a public defender.

Yes, they all have a right to a defense attorney. And this is what makes Dershowitz such an enigma.
I don't know this for a fact, but imo, he had some sort of (minor?) brain stroke before joining the O.J. team. What intelligent, accomplished person would throw away his reputation on a travesty like that? O.J. was found innocent because of jury nullification.
A couple of days ago, Mitch McConnell publicly announced jury nullification in the Senate's trial of Trump before it even started. And there's Alan Dershowitz, front and center, in another grotesque prank on the American rule of law.
Perhaps he sees himself as Clarence Darrow, taking on unpopular causes. But Darrow always defended the downtrodden and, against all odds, managed to triumph.
Dershowitz has made it his mission to defend the powerful. And he's "winning" because of the lack of true justice.

(15,041 posts)Trump will go down in history as a villain. My hope is that he lives many more years to see himself demonized and referred to as a dangerous, narcissistic psychopath in all the history books yet to be written and all the documentaries yet to be made.
He will dwell alone, crazed, filling his diapers, and drooling curses into his bib as he helplessly shrieks "false news." This is the future he deserves. He's done everything to earn it.
