Mitt: Obama’s Auto Bailout Was My Idea (LOL!)

Mitt: Obama’s Auto Bailout Was My Idea

Josh Marshall

Mitt Romney is doubling down on a claim he made earlier this year: that the President’s successful bailout of the auto industry was actually Romney’s idea. This from today’s interview with Carl Cameron of Fox News.

My view from the beginning was the auto companies needed to go through a managed bankruptcy. And ultimately, that’s what the president did. He finally took them through managed bankruptcy. But it took him six months to get there.

For some six months, Romney’s has been trying to retrospectively change his position on the autobailout, to position himself as the originator of a plan that proved successful. In fact, Romney supported a form of bankruptcy that most experts agree would have led to the liquidation of most or all of the US auto industry.

Nothing like a coordinated message from Romney-Ryan.

Ryan: ‘General Motors Isn’t Alive In My Hometown’

Paul Ryan dug in further on his attack against the Obama administration over the closing of a General Motors plant in his hometown of Janesville, Wisconsin — which actually occurred in 2008, when George W. Bush was president.

"General Motors isn’t alive in my hometown," Ryan told George Stephanopoulos of ABC News — responding to the frequent refrain from Vice President Joe Biden that under President Obama, "Osama bin Laden is dead, and General Motors is alive."

“The president came to Janesville, before the plant shut down, and said that he'd lead an effort to retool the plant," said Ryan. "After the plant was shut down, he said he would lead an effort to retool the plant to get people back to work. They’re still not back to work. I'd really ask the 23 million people, George, who are struggling to find work in America today, if we’re better off than we were four years ago?”
