"there's nothing that prevents the House from impeaching a president twice"

Republicans Are Right. The Impeachment Investigation Shouldn’t End So Soon.

One of the few cogent points Republicans have made during the impeachment hearings is that the process is being rushed for political reasons. The White House has withheld all documents and witnesses, and rather than wait for the legal system to sort out the dispute, Democrats have plunged ahead. “Why is court not an appropriate remedy?” asks Colorado representative Ken Buck. Republicans are right: The impeachment vote is proceeding without the benefit of all possible evidence.

On the other hand, a small part of me wonders if perhaps this process objection is being offered in bad faith. Maybe by the time the courts have ruled on every last one of Trump’s legal appeals, the election will already be over, or at least will be so close at hand that Republicans will switch over to insisting that the voters should decide the matter. I am sorry to let such a cynical thought even enter my mind.

It is precisely this fear that has driven Democrats to push the impeachment vote forward. And they do have a strong case on their behalf, too: Even without the benefit of all the evidence and testimony Trump has withheld, they have still constructed an airtight case for his guilt. Testimony, transcripts, contemporaneous text messages, multiple public confessions by Trump and his henchman all tell us that Trump withheld diplomatic and financial support to force Ukraine to investigate his domestic rivals.

Fortunately, there is an easy compromise. Republicans, as they keep telling us, are driven by a desire to see all the available evidence and follow every lead, however long it takes. Democrats want to be sure they register a historic judgment on Trump’s malfeasance before they can be accused of interfering with an election already underway. The solution is to vote to impeach Trump now on the basis of the incredibly damning and thorough evidence already at hand, while still pursuing the investigation. After all, there’s nothing that prevents the House from impeaching a president twice....

It wouldn't overload the system and if the senate is going to acquit the only way Dems can punish Trump is to make him the worst-the only president to be impeached twice.

DFT could be impeached a number of times.

Cheating on his taxes.

Paying off multiple porn stars.

Immoluments.

Sending Billy Barr on a world tour of corruption.

Doing the same thing with Giuliani.

Moscow Mitch has promised him that he will face no consequences for his actions.

The SCOTUS has signaled to him that no one will ever see his taxes and that congress has no oversight power over him.

He can do whatever he wants and there is no one with the will or power to stop him.

That way it hammers Trump and hammers the Republicans who are his defenders repeatedly just before a major election.
In other words Pelosi could be borrowing page out of the same handbook that the Republicans used against Hillary which would be delicious karma.

without getting to crow about being exonerated.

House has perfect excuse to prolong the investigation now, waiting for courts to decide on matters, looking at other potential Articles to include in a second vote.

Play their stupid game.

could be put across, public support for multiple ongoing impeachments might be strong. But the RWBS message to the contrary seems to prevail.

If the media gaf about our democracy it would be made clear, repeatedly, that Dems are doing their jobs--both the legislation and oversight parts.

Oh, and that Trump is a treasonous criminal who justice demands removal of, no matter how strong the %!@$*# economy.

crime to impeach.

Not true.

Any one of these below would qualify - wish they had thrown everything including the kitchen sink at him and not stuck on the Ukraine thing exclusively. Would have made for more interesting listening last week....

emoluments, profiting from presidency (over 100 million of taxpayer has been spent by prez vacationing at his own properties )
Wreckless behavior, taunting and inflammatory language, paying off Stormy Daniels, chronic pathological lying, advocating political violence - encouraging fans to rough up or assault press or protesters.. A lot of these things are self evident and require no "fact finding" whatsoever and when you add it all up, comprise pretty damning proof of someone unfit to be president. Previous convictions for fraud or whatever could certainly play into it.

Sure, we'd be accused of trying to undo or get rid of a supposedly legitimately elected president. News flash: we are already being accused of that. Another news flash: impeachment *IS* undoing or getting rid of an elected president. That's what impeachment IS!!!!!!!!!!!
