It's also kind of a big deal for this small town college to start a chapter for this National Society for Leadership & Success (Sigma Alpha PI)
When she transfers to US Berkeley, she will already have a chapter to welcome her. So awesome...
Also, this Community College is MY alma mater, I was on student govt, which she's already on as a rep. They actually even changed rules to admit her sooner because she was so gung-ho!
I reposted this to her GF me and she was so cute...telling me through the evening... "stop embarassing me" lol I told her that's my right!

(13,360 posts)Laney was born blind in her left eye. Optic Nerve Hypoplasia can cause sever disability, and thankfully she is on the milder end of the spectrum.
But she could never do sports, has had seizures in middle school, got treated unfairly in cheerleading, had to ride bikes on everyone's right side or she'd crash, we've spent nights in the ER, hormone, pituitary affected, horrible athsma...etc
We have been going to Drs and having blood tests and MRIs since she was 4.
But it has made her an adventurer, a fighter, and someone who has had to find strength in adversity. I am amazed at her resilience. She is the "mom" of her friend group, she is creative, nerdy, quirky and loves trying new foods...she has a flare for the dramatic, is a proud lesbian and has worked with her high school Ally club to further equality and open conversation.
She has made me a better parent.
I hope to continue sharing her amazing journey!!!!

(25,861 posts)Honor Society is a huge big deal, even when someone doesn't have road bumps along the way.
You are more than justified in being so proud of her (says the mom of a wonderfully smart son )
