The Flu and the Flu shots.

I have heard so many different opinions, many of which fly in the face of science.

The vaccine does not cause the flu. True or false.

I concur that trying to make an effective vaccine is trying to hit a moving target.

How is your experience with the flu shot?

Thanks!

1. As an elememtary school teacher I got the shot every year.

They gave them to us for free. I was sick at least 75% of the time I taught but only once with the actual flu. All the rest were back to back colds throughout the year and strange illnesses like mono, pneumonia, allergies to black mold, etc.

Right now I have a cold but I got the flu shot a month ago.

I'm 79 years old and I've never had a flu shot. I rarely get the flu and even then it is mild and short lived (one or two days). Plain old colds, however, knock me flat.

3. The viruses in the flu shot are dead/killed, so you cannot get the flu from a flu vaccine.

Your body has to build up the antibodies/immunitiy over a couple of weeks. You can still get the flu if you are exposed to it during the time your body is doing this.

The vaccine can trigger an immune response which can cause aches and even a light fever which people may mistake as getting sick from the flu shot. It's just how their body reacts to the flu shot that stimulates the immune response to fight off the flu.

Depending on your health, age, weight the vaccine could be less effective.

I got the flu shot last year and was about 4 days into building antibodies. I got the flu but it was mild because the antibodies I had developed helped.
Also, there are different strains of the flu that may not match the vaccine but are in circulation. So you can catch the flu from a different strain.

There is a nasal vaccine which is a bit different and I think it is only used in really healthy people because the virus is not dead but weakened.

I learned this from a very good friend of our family who is a doctor.... and my doctor said as much when I asked her about why I got sick when I had the flu shot.

That people blame the flu shot.
The option for the elderly is death!

As for the lucky person who never got the flu, Please donate your body to science.

You may be the savior of millions!

I am getting a biopsy mole thing done on Wednesday though, if my immune system is working for that will flu shot be too much?

Trying to decide if i should wait even longer.

8. I got a flu shot this week. I can't say it caused me to have a mild case of flu but

I experienced some flu like symptoms later before bed time. Some stomach issues and perhaps a slight fever. I had the double barrel over 65 shot.

Normally I haven't experienced symptoms from past flu shots. I have gotten the flu anyway, once, but that was probably 3 months after I had gotten the shot.

I still plan to keep taking my flu shot.

Dolks, we know what causes the flu and how to prevent it. Is it 100 percent, no, but it is pretty close. Do yourself a favor and get the flu shot.
