(82,849 posts)So, while the majority Republican legislature took a couple-three cracks at a fair map, none of them passed court review. The latest one, the best of a bad lot, will be the one in effect in 2020, and I'm guessing the North Carolina legislature will re-visit the district map in 2021. Still not fair, but better than it was.
I think this makes the count of Republicans opting for retirement/resignation/one step-ahead-of-the-sheriff to 20. Not as many as cut and run in 2018, but a higher proportion of the Republican caucus percentage-wise than in 2018.
I know the media are trying mightily to inflate the leaky Republican balloon with tales of how evenly divided the electorate is, but you have to figure that the most knowledgeable analysts of the political scene are politicians. To this point, Republicans are saying a LOT more with their actions than they ever do with their lying mouths.

But instead the voters select their politicians...
Rethuglicans ask, "Where is the nearest door". In order to win they need to game the system and somehow cheat.

(1,713 posts)we are likely to gain 2 seats on this redraw alone?
Currently Dems only hold 3 Congressional seats to 10 for Republicans - one of the most extreme gerrymanders in the country. This map will almost guarantee 5 Dem districts, and 2 more that are kinda swingy, so we'll see. NC is pretty much evenly divided, so this map is a little better, but still not where it should be!

(10,279 posts)last REPUKE map was OK'd for 2020 by the court several weeks, as there is not enough time to do it again. Again and again, the REPUKES have played the court. The map approved for 2020 will give the 'PUKES an 8 to 5 advantage.
