I laid my head down on the pillow and slipped off into sleep. I woke up this morning to my daughters getting ready for school (high school) and started smiling again.
With Michelle in our corner, how can I NOT smile?
Did anyone else notice the stark difference in the attitudes of the convention attendees? How many were smiling, moved emotionally, rapt with attention on the speakers at the DNC...compared to the anger and fear of the RNC?
Watching Michelle fog up on stage, putting her heart out there for everyone to see. The sincerity, warmth, and the quiet sense of steel in her backbone. The sheer honesty of her misgivings at the start of this journey for them, and how she was concerned for her girls at first. It made me cover my mouth with my hand and cry.
Do you know why I'm smiling? Because I adore, admire and respect our President...and would step in front of a bus for his first lady.
The entire first day was amazing, but I went to bed smiling because of Michelle.

(1,728 posts)She is such a shining example of a First Lady -- intelligent, stunning, erudite. I am so proud of her.
On the other hand, the Repuke blogs have torn her apart. They are incredibly mean-spirited.
But we all know that.

(53,410 posts)And she never once attacked them Mitt or Paul Ryan. Yet she destroyed them.
Lot's of people hated MLK Jr, and Ghandi, and Mandela and anyone, including Jesus, who talked about love and brotherhood. So Michelle is in good company.

Hubby asked me "Why aren't you reading up on the news?" I snarkily replied "Because it's not news, they're just jealous."

(53,410 posts)I noticed a hell of a lot in the audience were doing the same thing. She really did bare her soul and by so doing connected with everyone else's soul.

(1,716 posts)it felt right to me. I don't know if that makes any sense at all to you but that's the only way I know how to explain it.

(9,186 posts)every damn morning, and had dinner every night. Yes she was a stay-at-home mom and SHE worked hard. We had a horse in Montana. Not a dressage horse, a western horse. we had an old chevy sedan and an older pickup truck. we grew our vegetables and got eggs from the coop, not the store. In the winter MOM got up, lit the stove we stood around to get warm while she fixed breakfast...
I believe Michelle and Barack Obama understand my life, my upbringing
There is no effing way the Rawmoney's could hope to identify with my life. Shit, their idea of a struggle is debating what stock they should sell so theydon't have to get a job and EARN a living instead of inheriting one.

(1,716 posts)First let me say I'm so glad you had such dedicated parents.
Second, I think that it's key. They DO understand, and it's something you can't fake.

(12,904 posts)And my mother in law called me after Michelle's speech, and told me what a fantastic job our First Lady has done in this first term. This poor lady is bombarded daily with right-wing propaganda from her well-meaning friends, but she doesn't have the courage to tell them to stop.
At least I can be sure, after what she said last night, that she is not wavering in her support for the President. And I would gladly join you in the path of that bus.
Well done, Michelle Obama!

(3,544 posts)most awesome speech I've ever heard. It was truly sincere, and from the heart. I teared up a few times too, and I don't cry. I can't wait for the next 2 nights.

(25,415 posts)And I want to keep her our First Lady for four more years. She has an incredible intelligence, empathy, and passion. And she just comes off as a regular, genuine person. A mom concerned for her kids and her husband. I loved her last night.
