Today I was robbed by Coffee County High School!. I was robbed of the joy of watching my youngest grand daughter play two basketball games. I was robbed when I was informed that I could not watch the games sitting in my little folding chair in a out-of-the way spot. It was sit in wooden bleachers or nothing.
I am 71 yrs old and disabled by a degenerate nerve disease which makes me (among many things) no longer capable of sitting on wooden bleachers for four hours. I am a certified "Handicap", but I am not whining or complaining about that fact, rather the being treated like a sub-human for being old and worn out. I hope the young lady athletic director who made me leave, never has to endure such treatment when she grows old.
I wonder,,,? If I had gone to the game in my wheel chair would she have demand me to sit in the wooden bleachers?
Shame on Coffee County High School...!

(721 posts)There are good people out there, but today you ran into one of the cruddy ones. I do hope it's somehow made up to you.
I also think you should call the school and tell them about it. That way the frustration goes where it belongs instead of staying in you.
With all respect...

As a near-71 year old with rheumatoid arthritis, I can easily empathize with your emotionally painful experience at the gymnasium. Maybe DO return to the next game in a wheel chair, even if you have to borrow one. And, it might be worthwhile to call your state or federal "Americans With Disabilities" enforcement body. Your state Atforney Genaral's Office may be the place to start.
Good luck.

(11,686 posts)I would have asked her to explain in detail why a disabled person who is UNABLE to sit there is going to be forced to sit there or leave.
I would then remind her that I will bring this up with the Superintendant and the ADA.
By law they need to have a suitable alternative for disabled people.
