(14,154 posts)... it is excellent fertilizer.
Besides Nunes is full of bullshit,... so there are ample and bottomless supplies.

(14,752 posts)First, these are basically just rumors at this point.
Lev needs to make the statement himself, under oath. That will take time since he has a plea deal with the feds and they hold his leash.
The only way around that would be for the house to give him limited immunity, but at that point the gop has a hammer to hit him with.
But until he is under oath, or there is independent proof, the house can't do much. The dems won't prosecute rumors; we aren't the gop.

(58,785 posts)of government to save our nation from where the Republican leadership are taking it is.
This could just be noise. Or it could indicate that our leaders won't delay the trial in the senate for this. INSTEAD, they'd keep this story in the news to support the one woven at trial.
This wouldn't be the only one. That two more big stories broke under the Republicans' feet last night was no surprise. Their plots are collapsing. And there will be more: in a new media environment where at least the foreign affairs aspects of Republican corruption and betrayal have become the big-story context of the impeachment.

(19,201 posts)that Nunes and his aides took last December. One of Nunes aides posed as a Ukraine "expert" (although he knew absolutely nothing about the Ukraine) and was filling Trump's empty head with all sorts of bogus crap about the debunked Biden "investigation". There are records of that shit, and I hope Devon and his aides are sent packing back to the "farm".

(14,752 posts)So maybe he cut his deal and will testify soon. At least in private. That will be enough to get nunes fried.

(14,752 posts)The house won't do it. The senate has never investigated a sitting member of the house before.
The doj?
I think they will try to prosecute him in the media, but I don't think they want to subpoena him into the senate, even during impeachment.
That would lead to a war of the houses. Even the russian turtle doesn't want that.

(17,918 posts)they sure as shit ain't gonna touch Schiff.

(14,752 posts)What the gop is hoping for here is twofold. First, to out the whistleblower.
Second, to try to link the house dems to the whistelblower in a way that could be twisted into a plot. You heard it during the hearings: schif met secretly with the whistleblower and other witnesses and molded their testimony.
It's bullshit of course, but that is their stock and trade right now.
But the doj has no grounds to even talk to him, let alone depose him.
They possess none of the levers of power in the House. Elections do have consequences.

(17,918 posts)Hearings and everything. It's like the House continuing the impeachment of IQ45, without doing it directly. Adding fuel to the fire over in the Senate as they wrestle with the formal impeachment the House is close to voting on. And taking out Nunes in the process. Santa came early this year and he's been quite generous.

(9,670 posts)If all the truth were known to us, a huge swath of the Republican contingent would be implicated in a mass conspiracy to line their pockets with Putin's prizes. Nunes, Jordan, Graham, Paul, et al. just happen to be the most obvious. This is carefully-orchestrated obstruction of justice at the highest levels of government, trickling down through the executive branch, the legislative branch, right on down to state level players. Trump is the easy target here, but he's just the head of the snake, a decoy even, consolidating our attention when in truth the totality of the ongoing crime would not permit an actual focus.
Honestly, I don't think any of them, none of them, is afraid of being caught. The stakes are high and they've had years now to mobilize the proper actors in the appropriate roles. They've got Putin on the ready to dump more disinformation on the American people, to confuse us, to divide us, and ultimately to ruin us.
I have great faith in Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi to do the best with what they've got. They're trying to bail the water out of the Titanic with a teaspoon, though. Frightening times to be an American.
