More about Michelle Obama's dress

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/entertainment/post/2012/09/michelle-obama-wears-xxx-for-her-speech-at-dem-convention/1#.UEbDp42PWIo

Michelle Obama wears Tracy Reese for her convention speech

It's possible to get distracted from what first lady Michelle Obama is saying during her speech to the Democratic convention tonight because that dress she's wearing is so outstanding.

Custom-designed by Tracy Reese, it's rosy pink and grey, in a silky sort of material, and sleeveless, of course, with a pair of pink pumps to finish it off. No jewelry except for her wedding rings, her hair loose and even a little flyaway.

"So honored," Reese tweeted minutes after Mrs. Obama appeared on stage.

The chatter from other tweeters was admiring, especially of those buff arms of hers.

"Beautiful!" tweeted L'Wren Scott about the Reese dress.

We're still waiting for confirmation about the designer of her shoes. Obviously she decided not to go with Talbot's (one of her faves) or Oscar de la Renta, who designed Republican Ann Romney's convention-speech red dress last week.

BTW average price of a Tracy Reese dress is about $325. Sure that seems like a lot but very reasonable when you consider that Oscar de la Renta dresses go for thousands.

Fitted, but modest. An incredibly flattering color, and make-up that didn't overwhelm her natural beauty.

Ann Romney is an attractive woman, and I know she dearly loves her husband and family, and I'm sorry she is dealing with the same disease Michelle's father dealt with, but nothing about Ann's speech or appearance said "real" the way Michelle's speech and appearance did. I don't think Ann has experienced the real world the way Michelle did.

(And I'm sorry to talk about dresses and make-up. Men are lucky - a suit is a suit is a suit is a suit - so unless a guy looks sloppy, they're okay)

Even when smiling, she looks angry. I listened to a snippet of her speech and turned it off because she sounds angry.

And she looks plastic, as Cleita wrote elsewhere she isn't comfortable in her own skin or she wouldn't need to bleach the hair, etc.

No, she hasn't experienced the real world the way Michelle did. Her idea of roughing it was a college basement apartment eating "pasta and tuna fish" and living off gifted stocks. Other than that, she has been pampered her entire life.

We all suffer, or will suffer, some illnesses or other. We will not all have millions of dollars -- or even close to it -- to spend on every available treatment. Worse yet, most of us will still have to continue working right through it to support ourselves and our families.

And 100x classier / prettier.

I say this being someone who is typically critical of expensive clothing choices growing up poor and getting my older brothers hand-me-downs. (I didn't get my first pair of new clothes until I was in my 20s and paid for them myself!)

She did good, only $100 more than my go-to suit for important occasions (such as jury duty, heh).

a dressy shirtdress, typical of 50's suburban country-club types. Stodgy, old-fashioned, and way pricier than it looks. Michelle's style is modern and elegant, but never pretentious. Interesting, isn't it, how the wardrobe fits the personalities?

US made? Union shop? did she make it herself from a pattern? or "imported" from some third world totalitarian sweat shop? That is what matters to me.
