for the foundry he worked in- a way to know who was inside, and who didn't make it out at the end of the day.

He worked in a copper mine and that was his ID tag. At the start of every shift, each man dropped his tag in a basket. At the end of their shift they hung their tags on a peg board so their co-workers would know they made it out of the mine safely. The tag # is 720. What a great story, and a great lady.
