After yesterday, Republicans will need to re-calibrate.

Their Counsel, Steve Castor, was criticized by some on the right as being on the "other" side. Also, he was caught on camera, leaning back in his chair with his eyes closed, as if resigned to the futility of his argument.

Their strategy was to disrupt with procedural motions and "points of order" but they were quickly squelched by Chairman Schiff, who recognized their scheme from the beginning. They were going to let Ms Stefanik lead the charge and then let Gym Jordan clean up with his rapid-fire questioning. They were persistent. They tried about six times each to disrupt the hearing but were scolded and silenced by Mr Schiff in very short order. He showed that he was in total control of the hearing.

What will they do different going forward? Since their initial strategy failed so miserably, what can they do to interrupt and disrupt with the future witnesses? Mr Trump was probably very disappointed in their efforts yesterday?

Schiff was great, but I do wish he had taken a minute to read the pertinent rules to Jordan and Stefanik, and also remind them that the rules were crafted by Republicans under Boehner. That would have quickly told viewers that Jordan and Stefanik were grandstanding.

And as a note - these rules designed specifically for this Impeachment Inquiry were marked up in the House Rules Committee late last month and reported out to the full House as H. Rept. 116-266 - https://www.congress.gov/congressional-report/116th-congress/house-report/266

The resolution was debated and was successfully passed in the House as H.Res. 660 - https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-resolution/660

They're going to find themselves being forced to recalibrate numerous times next week. When Lt Colonel Vindman & Gordon Sondland testify, their "second hand, third hand, fourth hand" arguments will be down the proverbial crapper.

Sondland is a wild card but I think his revised testimony is a pretty strong indicator that he sees the writing on the wall. He has to see that that he is already being thrown under the bus by Trump & his minions - in other words, THE ENTIRE GOP.

Couple that with the outcome of Roger Stone's trial and I think he's going to roll all over Trump, Giuliani, Mulvaney, and everyone else involved, to save his skin. (And his hotels, of course.) And it can't escape notice that Manafort is still sitting in prison, nary a pardon in sight.

First one to roll over always gets the best deal. And he doesn't look like a guy who'd fare well in prison... even if it is only Club Fed.
