As the Republicans fret about their election chances...

...maybe they should have thought that their particular brand of hate and nasty cannot survive forever in such a connected world, it is there in your face in every corner of MSM and social media, and eventually, all actions have consequences...

They have felt free to pander to their very worst excesses, because Trump has normalised sinking as low as possible, and this is never OK with the normal in the middle majority in a democratic system... they have pushed their bullshit so far that the stink of it is all over the land. They are so caught in the mire of their own toxic making that they forget they need the middle and the middle right to retain power, and within these cohorts there are many (and a growing number) who look at, with increasing aghast, what the republican party has become... and it does not matter about their smoke and mirrors, their attempts at false equivalency and their Russian friends, all of that may have an impact on the fringes but the STINK is now so STINKY, distraction and lies are not going to be as effective as they were in the last election cycle. The stink is so strong even those with selective filtering when it comes to Trump will find it difficult to ignore the stench that surrounds him and the republican party.

The republicans need to fret about next year, as the GOP is beyond broken and there is no time to fix it. They are going DOWN because there are not enough angry old white men, clinging to bigotry, misogyny, phoney patriotism, cafeteria Christianity and homophobia out there to keep then in power. They are fast losing their relevance to everyone else and they only have themselves to blame. After all no-one wants to hang around the smelly kid... Heh.

Angry old men gradually die off while new voters emerge. All eggs stay in a Trumpian basket with no means to expand it. Mathematically and politically a non-sustainable dud of a strategy. Will the GOP ever get it?

Never been a more perfect strategy for the GOP. It's the best there's ever been in the history of bigly strategies.

They have shown the world who they truly are, and that is not good. Power hungry, protecting an illegitimate president with the lowest character of any candidate in the history of the country. Boosting a crook with a life long history of dirty deeds. Their approval shows their true character, and THAT is very bad. By their own actions, they are destroying the republican party, and that is the best thing they have ever done for this country.
