LeBron James' Foundation to renovate apartment building for troubled I Promise students and families

This guy really gives back to his community.....

***************

The apartments will provide students and their families a safe place to stay when they experience homelessness, domestic violence and other unforeseen circumstances. The I Promise Village can provide immediate shelter so students can still attend school while the foundation helps families develop a long-term plan.

“Initially, our work was focused on helping these kids earn an education,” LeBron James said in a statement. “But we’ve found that it is impossible to help them learn if they are struggling to survive – if they are hungry, if they have no heat in the freezing winter, if they live in fear for their safety. We want this place to be their home where they feel safe, supported and loved, knowing we are right there with them every step of the way as they get back on their feet.”

Besides the renovation of these apartments for families of the I promise students which is a monumental step forward for them. One paragraph particularly struck me :

I Promise School is a public school for 343 of Akron’s most at-risk third-, fourth- and fifth-graders that is supported by the LeBron James Family Foundation. Last year, all students started the school year in the bottom 25th percentile and performed below grade level. By the end of the year, 90% of students met or exceeded individual growth goals in reading and math.

This demonstrate perfectly that it's not the students that underperform as some would like us to believe, it's the school system chronicly underfunded that is the problem. If you invest resources like Lebron did, these kids can become as successful as any other given the opportunity
I wish we could ( and we should) duplicate his model everywhere
