showing up to testify today (4 of them) and those expected to not show over the rest of the week. Schiff said he likely won't take it to court but will make it a charge to add to the list.

(51,632 posts)Whats happening next week:
Congress will be on a weeklong break, but the committees and staff conducting the investigation will continue interviewing a number of important witnesses, making next week a crucial phase before public hearings begin.
*Monday is a busy day, with investigators scheduled to talk to Robert Blair, an aide to Mick Mulvaney, the acting chief of staff. Theyre also supposed to talk to John Eisenberg, the top lawyer on the National Security Council, and his deputy, Michael Ellis.
*On Tuesday, a White House budget official, Michael Duffey, is scheduled to testify; on Wednesday, investigators want to talk to T. Ulrich Brechbuhl, a State Department adviser close to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
*On Thursday and this is a big one it could be John Boltons turn. The former national security adviser would be the closest person to President Trump to testify. Multiple witnesses have said he objected to the presidents dealings with Ukraine. But his lawyer said he would not appear voluntarily, and its not clear how he will respond to a subpoena.

(567 posts)for past or present Trump employees, feds, hookers (sad to say), that want to come forward to be faithful US citizens and report the truth about what they know if they were afraid of any culpability.
Schiff should announce that any Non-Disclosure Agreements signed by these employees with Trump are now Null and Void in light of the Impeachment investigations and proceedings.

The DOJ is the enforcement crowd, and we know who owns them !!!!!!!!!!!!

(8,845 posts)With today's news of Donnie Jr. publicly naming the whistleblower I doubt ANY whistleblower now or in the future will be thinking about being in a history book or their 15 minutes of fame. Their only thoughts will be surviving until they testify and afterwards.
My question would be, how did Donnie Jr, Linsey Graham, etc etc etc all find out the name/identity of the whistleblower??????????
Especially on something this momentous, that person not only has to worry about Trump, The Republicans in Congress, all their 50 million MAGGOT followers, but even foreign governments and U.S. Corporations that will be rocked by us impeaching their leader.

(14,176 posts)Not just including another obstruction charge against Trump. What is one more obstruction charge to him at this point? Or even to the public? Why not make it clear that just because the President orders you to not cooperate, does not erase your duty to testify. And if you do not comply, not only will Democrats take down Trump, but you as well will be charged with not complying with a lawful order.
How does this encourage any new witnesses into cooperating? Put on some list that will go nowhere if they don't?
I thought that Democrats should not have gone out of their way to make it even more fairer that Bill Clinton and the Democrats dealt with back in that time. Why? Right....I know, to prove how much more ethical you are. Fine. But if the outcome is so important to the country, why do they always have to bend over backwards for a corrupt criminal organization, who will take any advantage you hand them.
Meanwhile Republicans will use any dirty trick they can. Barr's latest; insisting on every witness being represented by the GOP to protect executive privilege. Which I'm sure they will implement for any uncomfortable question.

(3,077 posts)... and then we got Citizen's United that the GOP/RNC and their benefactors and stooges set up into a, "freedom of speech", issue for the courts. Anyone could see that it would lead to under the table moneys from foreign entities and other nefarious characters. Now we got Igor and Parnas and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

(6,139 posts)we need to be bolder in enforcing the law; do subpoenas mean anything in congress anymore? It seems you can ignore it; or commit perjury with no consequences. Not a great precedent to set.

(36,137 posts)I'll look it up, but I'm pretty sure they can be detained, fined, etc., although rethugs would muddy the media waters to make Dems look like rethugs' own dirty selves.
If Schiff's just trying to avoid drama and stay focused on MF45, I suppose "impeach" is as good a word as any, for now.
Lock him up.

(36,137 posts)a pretty large number of separate "obstruction" prosecutions.
I don't know how that happens.
Maybe a knowledgeable lawyer can help us out about how prosecuting congress people gets done. It looks like a Big legal fight ahead against the DOJ, which won't prosecute.
