White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham on Friday did not shoot down the prospect of a nationally televised fireside chat during which the president reads a rough transcript of his call with the president of Ukraine.
The July 25 phone call, during which President Donald Trump pressured Ukraines Volodymyr Zelensky for investigations into events surrounding the 2016 election and the Biden family, is at the center of House Democrats impeachment inquiry now in its second month.
Trump has vehemently denied any improper pressure took place on the call, despite administration officials testifying behind closed doors that it was just one facet of a shadow campaign by Trump and several others to urge Ukrainian officials to conduct investigations that could politically benefit Trump.
Trump made the suggestion that he might revive the sort of fireside chats popularized by Franklin D. Roosevelt in an interview Thursday with the Washington Examiner in which he defended his ask of Zelensky once again.

(14,961 posts)shows just how guilty he is. Although I guess it's possible they would sanitize it further, but everyone has seen the version they put out there.

(15,034 posts)will be endlessly analyzed. His little show will bring the whole "transcript" into the public ear. More important, it'll bring heightened scrutiny to the reality that the "transcript" is only a "memorandum," and not a verbatim account. This can only harm him.
The point, then, is that should the Dotard read this on national TV, he will further compromise himself.
I'm all in favor. I say go for it, Babyfingers. It'll be comedy gold.

(21,155 posts)Dont for one minute think he will actually read the transcript. It will be his interpretation.
And there is no way I will watch it to give him ratings. I think between now and then he will backtrack on this decision. When they record him as a rehearsal and he bombs.
