Then, Pence will promise a pardon, and Trump will resign. The pattern was already set by Nixon. When things get bad enough, someone will make this clear to him.

(101,316 posts)Trump is not able to evaluate a situation. He doesn't admit blame or failure. Yes, someone will make things clear to him, but there's no sign Trump would do anything apart from attack that person, as a result.
I fear Trump will be in the Oval Office until January 2021 (because you're not going to get over a third of Republican senators to impeach), and once he's lost the election in 2020, he will be a nightmare the USA has never seen. He will try and issue the most outrageous executive orders there have ever been, with a dwindling band of acolytes trying to enforce them, while others do what they can to neutralise them. He will pardon high-ranking criminals, and people will say "the Constitution gives him an absolute right to do this". There will be a real chance of the 25th Amendment being invoked at that point, when Republicans in cabinet and Congress realise supporting him is worse for their prospects than doing the decent thing.

Hmmm. Maybe if they present it as just another bankruptcy... That just might work.

(4,379 posts)You and I agree. However, the Republicans have gone bat shit crazy. Doing the smart, best thing for their survival does not apply with them any longer. We will have to see what the polls say after the open hearings. That might wake them up.
This is going to get a lot worse for the Republicans, not better.

That will be the point when it sinks in.
