The universal basic income (UBI) movement is gaining momentum in the United States, where cities like Stockton, California have implemented pilot programs and 2020 presidential candidate Andrew Yang is running on a platform heavily based on principles of UBI, including the idea of giving every American a “freedom dividend” of $1,000 per month.

On today’s episode, Ali explores the challenges and possibilities of UBI with Annie Lowrey, author of Give People Money. 1. This is a very good discussion of UBI!

Thanks so much for posting this! It's long but really worth hearing.

I hope a lot more people start getting behind this idea. It truly would be revolutionary.

As the party that has historically championed the social safety net, this represents a chance to really move forward in how we ensure basic needs are met.

there simply aren't enough jobs to go around for everyone.

There certainly are not enough jobs that pay a living wage to go around and many of those that do not will be replaced by automation and AI in the not too distant future.
