Russia Demands All U.S. Troops Leave Syria, Slams Trump's Occupying Force

Russia demanded on Thursday that any remaining U.S. soldiers in Syria leave the country, denouncing the United States as an occupying force in the war-torn Middle Eastern state.

"As for the presence of American soldiers in Syria, our position is well known. Only the Russian units are present in Syria legitimately at the invitation of the Syrian leadership," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in comments carried by state news agency TASS.

I haven’t had time to properly research this, but I became curious this week about how Russia’s GDP has changed in the last few years, mostly to see whether there was any connection (though I don’t know what) between Trump becoming president and Russia’s changing economy. What I found surprised me. Here’s the GDP for the past four years:

—Russia gdp for 2018 was $1,657.55B, a 5% increase from 2017.
—Russia gdp for 2017 was $1,578.62B, a 23.07% increase from 2016.
—Russia gdp for 2016 was $1,282.72B, a 5.93% decline from 2015.
—Russia gdp for 2015 was $1,363.59B, a 33.81% decline from 2014.

Is it simply coincidence that GDP declined the last two years of the Obama administration and then increased during Trump’s two years? There may well be no relationship between the two. It’s just odd. I’ll keep searching when I have more time.
