Man who fought against gay adoption, but turned out to be molester, arrested on violating parole
An Indiana man who two decades ago was at the center of a fight against a gay man's adoption effort was arrested Saturday, Madison County Jail records show. Earl "Butch" Kimmerling is accused of violating parole that stemmed from a child molesting case.
The 71-year-old is accused of having unauthorized contact with a minor, unauthorized computer use and Halloween candy close to his front door after being warned not to do so, Madison County Prosecutor Rodney Cummings said. Kimmerling also is accused of "displaying continued dishonesty," Cummings said. The allegations date back to last year.
Kimmerling's arrest came less than three days after IndyStar detailed the circumstances of his original case in a series posted April 24. A parole official said the paperwork detailing the accusations against Kimmerling had been filed April 17.
Kimmerling gained statewide attention in 1998 when he fought a gay man's attempt to adopt Kimmerling's then 8-year-old foster daughter Ashley. Less than a year later, authorities learned Kimmerling was sexually abusing Ashley.
