(12,422 posts)And I dont blame them one iota...
There has to be leadership somewhere and our Democrats are trying to calm the waters...but when Jordan sees hundreds of thousands of refugees pouring in from Syria into various countries but mainly Jordan who has been trying to take care of as many as possible...well, the leadership has to provide assurance of assistance...
This illegitimate POS has caused immeasurable harm...
Somehow someway, we must take back the reins from Erdogan..
The Con is not above turning our guns on the Turk...and that Erdogan/Putin meeting will be more about how do we pull him into this...

Whatever made you think that?

(12,422 posts)JordanUnited States relations covers the bilateral relations between Jordan and the United States. Jordan has been a very close Major non-NATO ally in the Middle East since 1996.

(33,447 posts)Jordan has strained its resources to help refugees.

(32,082 posts)Why would that be? Well, Jordan receives foreign aid for the refugees from the UN and various countries. So the greater the number the greater the aid. Let's do the math. Jordan claims 2 million Palestinian refugees. They claim 630,000 refugees from Syria. They claim 750,000 to 1 million Iraqi refugees. So that is about 3.4 million. One of the UN agencies says 760,000. I have been to Jordan several times and I have seen the main refugee camps. I believe even the UN number is over stated.

(11,377 posts)you mean like the Saudis, the Syrians, the Egyptians, the Lebanese, the Iraqis ..
(or are you perhaps intimating that Netanyahu is the only ally we have in that part of the world?)

(32,082 posts)History has proven that over and over again since the end of WW II. I have been in Jordan several times and it is a beautiful country but it is run by a dictatorship. Dictators do what is in their interest not in anyone else's interest.

(11,377 posts)they are as strong (or perhaps dependable is a better word?) ally as some would think. But part of that might have to do with the shifting sands of foreign policy (particularly in the ME). And if, in fact, the U.S. has a coherent foreign policy or world view these days. My view -- in the transitory, and contradictory, world of the ME -- Israel is an ally of convenience, just like all the rest. Sadly, 20th century ideas like a "western or democratic" don't seem to carry as much weight as they use to. And Israel is just as much a part of that sad mix as the other players (including the U.S.)

Expect some incredible temper tantrum that will last for months.

I know of several other allies there who could use a visit from our sane leaders.

And I thought the great son in law was supposed to be in charge of the Middle East. I haven't seen anything about him lately

(34,661 posts)name calling the other day,you just knew something was going to happen. The Three Generals sitting at the far end of the Table most likely moved on this.
We need a Bug Out Point for our Forces, and despite what some think,Jordan's King and Family are pro USA and will offer a temporary safe haven for our Troops .
BTW,the Nevada Air National Guard was ordered up on Wednesday with all their Helio's to report to somewhere in the Mid East. First stop is a base in Texas for a week of shake down Training and off they go.
BTW,Nevada Air Guard has one of the largest fleets of Chinooks. Wednesday PM several flights of these Helio's flew into Nellis as well as several mega Cargo Planes.
