Moyer captured it in a nutshell. Moderate Republicans are in a fierce battle to regain control of thier party, regain respectability, and regain long term electability.

The extreme path cannot work without Citizens United, Fox News lemmings, and voter disenfranchisement. Unfortuantely they have all three. This year will be marked with an asterisk if they win and the American populace will be historically compared to that of mid 1930s Germany.
