Just out: MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME IS AT THE HIGHEST POINT EVER, EVER, EVER! How about saying it this way, IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY! Also, MORE PEOPLE WORKING TODAY IN THE USA THAN AT ANY TIME IN HISTORY! Tough numbers for the Radical Left Democrats to beat! Impeach the Pres.

(13,424 posts)Median is the middle number when all the numbers are lined up consecutively. For instance, if there were only three incomes of $1, $4 and $100, then the median income is $4 whereas the average income is $35 - a huge percentage difference between the two. The Top 400 can skew an average somewhat but they are a non-factor in almost 200 million incomes when determining a median.

(7,432 posts)Second: there are no citations in Trumpy's tweet. Where did he get this information.
Third: Wages for the vast majority of working citizens have stagnated or slightly improved over the past 20 years. So where's the big swing?

(3,268 posts)If 99 people earn $1 per year and 1 person earns $101 per year...
Mean is $2
Median is $51
Mode is $1
They lump the Walton and such in with fry cooks to make the truth harder to see.

(6,811 posts)So 150 families above median and 150 families below median.
All 150 below 100 could be making 10.
149 above could be making 101
And 1 family above could be making 5,000,000.
And the median then is 100. Same number of people above and below. Maybe that's a tick above the previous median which might have been 98.
But, Overall, how are those 300 families doing ?

(10,185 posts)It was 67% in Sept. 1999 and it is 63.2% in Sept 2019. So a larger percent of people are not working today than 20 years ago.
It was 64 to 65 percent during the last crash.
