The mayor spoke first.
I'm hopeful they are throwing the officer under the bus.
You'll have to decide.

(131,107 posts)'A Fort Worth police officer who fatally shot a woman in her home while she played video games with her 8-year-old nephew has resigned from the force but still could face criminal charges, the interim police chief said Monday.
Chief Ed Krauss said Aaron Dean, who is white, would have been fired and is considered dishonorably discharged from the department. Krauss also said the U.S. Justice Department will examine the case for possible civil rights violations.'>>>

(102,360 posts)Thus, this poor woman (and her nephew) were left to the very poor judgment of a single, inexperienced officer, who without any backup appears to have panicked.
Fort Worth has far more issues to deal with than the now two officers who killed innocent residents in their own homes.
If you listen to the mayor's remarks...
Well, if your interested in Fort Worth Politics...
We'll have to see if they follow through.
He didn't follow policy.
There were 2 officers, IIRC.

(17,865 posts)They did not have answers to two really good questions.
1. Why didn't the officers knock on the front door (and announce themselves).
2. Why they showed a gun which was unrelated to the shooting when they were not supposed to show anything from inside the house until receiving proper approvals (we all know the answer to that question - no pot or other drugs was handy).

(646 posts)But didn't know why it was shown
IIRC said something that they will look at that..
But I'll have to watch it again later myself

(9,974 posts)Both had wooden inner doors open. You could see thru the screen outside doors in &very well lit* parts of the house. One door was the front door, second was the side door.
Local TV station did a split screen...left side was the body cam, right side was a computerized re-enactment of what was played out on the body cam along with a timer. The time between him at the front door and him at the back window was within a minute. So he made NO attempt at either door/well lit up parts of the house..maybe he glanced in them for seconds each.
I went & found the split screen article:

Like they are soldiers or something.
I'm know I'm being pendant. But you don't see any other organization pretending to be military.

Sergei Waybourn was arrested, days after Sheriff Bill Waybourns comments about unauthorized immigrants sparked controversy.

The son of Tarrant County Sheriff Bill Waybourn was arrested Friday on charges of public intoxication and indecent exposure, jail records show.
Arlington police arrested Sergei Waybourn near AT&T Stadium, just a few days after the sheriff sparked controversy with comments he made at the White House about some of Tarrant Countys jailed unauthorized immigrants.
Bill Waybourn was at a Washington, D.C., event Thursday opposing a judges decision to end the use of unreliable databases when U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement requests local law enforcement hold someone facing possible deportation.
The sheriff said the ruling would make it difficult to keep in jail unauthorized immigrants charged with DUIs. While noting that many are repeat offenders, he said, These drunks will run over your children, and they will run over my children."

(646 posts)but the Tarrant County Sheriff is not a part of the Fort Worth Police Department. Different agency.
Fort Worth has a lot of work to do.
This officer needs to go to jail, but he's gonna be their scape goat for other use of force problems.

Also, there is a dispute with the former police chief, who is black.
