Went to a family day for airline employees with my husband and sister and they had this emergency vehicle that we got to tour the inside of the command center. It was fascinating seeing all the controls and as we were exiting I see on the white board tv channels written on the board and the number three one was One America news after that was cnn, fox, msnbc. I pointed it out to my husband and while pointing at it accidentally wiped out the channel number.
It kind of pissed me off that as a taxpayer someone who is supposed to protect us watches that awful propaganda network while providing emergency services.

(41,171 posts)and isn't it a shame that there isn't another TV news choice leaning to the center left and left side.
(Wiki). One America News Network (OANN), also referred to as One America News (OAN), is an American right-wing[1][2] pay television news channel launched on July 4, 2013, owned by Herring Networks, Inc. The network is headquartered in San Diego, California, and operates a news bureau in Washington, D.C.[3] and New York City.
Originally launched with the intention of targeting a conservative and center-right audience,[4][5] OAN states a goal of delivering credible national and international news coverage throughout the day while its prime time political talk shows illustrate a conservative perspective.[6][7][8] The channel is pro-Trump.[6][9] Both Vanity Fair and The Independent in London have said that the channel promotes falsehoods and conspiracy theories.[7][10] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_America_News_Network

(26,648 posts)My husband was watching it the other day. He often tunes into Fox because he's much more stable than me and can take it, but OAN really got to him. You gotta see this, he says. They're worse than Fox. Nothing they say is true. And they call themselves news. It was good to see him get a little unhinged about it, like I do with Fox.
Anyway, they are pretty bad and people are eating that stuff up. It's scary.

... One of his key insights was that most Americans have little interest in the news, which is too abstract, too distant from their everyday lives. Fox News excelled at wrangling facts and sometimes fictions into familiar points of view.
- It transposed the bewildering world of current events onto simple storylines: us versus them, regular folks versus elites, the righteous versus the unjust.
This formula won huge ratings, enviable revenues, and a loyal base of fans. By adapting the rhythms of talk radio to cable news, Ailes had discovered the perfect medium for making propaganda profitable.
- In the depthless, two-dimensional realm of the TV screen, appearances and emotions do most of the work. A confident delivery can make outrageous ideas sound self-evident in the moment. (And what is television if not a collection of beguiling moments?)
One of the central convictions Ailes brought to Fox News was a sense that conservatives were under siege, politically and culturally: The mainstream media was a liberal conspiracy; coastal elites were sneering at the honest folk of the heartland (Ailes was born in Ohio); real America was crumbling and liberals were dancing on its grave...

(26,648 posts)Good article. Thanks.
Yes fox has changed America, but America was ripe for it, or maybe overripe, even rotten in some places. Sad. We couldve been great. Hell, we saved the world in WWII and rebuilt Europe with the Marshall Plan, but well be undone by racism and greed, the same way we began.
