Why are the Syrians being so blasé about an invasion of their country?
Why is the world not condemning turkey for invading another country?
What as I missing?

(31,261 posts)At this point, unfortunately, the only person that can stop the carnage is Putin and he likely won't because the Kurds allied with us.

It's a weird situation, but his focus has been on the western part of the country. I think it is because Syria was created by the French and British in 1918. The eastern part is the Kurds historical homeland too. The Kurds have never had a country, so I assume Eastern Syria was just sort of an unofficial "Kurdistan"....They don't bother us and we don't bother them type of situation.
I kinda think it's a climate thing too. Western Syria has a favorable climate where more people prefer to live and Eastern Syria is a hot desert. My grandmother's ship manifest says she came from Beirut, Syria. (Not Lebanon..) The Armenian concentration camps were all in what is now Eastern Syria.
