Man (Dog Warden) Charged After Alleged Botched Puppy Euthanization

WAVERLY, Ohio - A man charged with the care of animals was charged on Wednesday with 11 counts of animal cruelty.

Prosecutors said that Pike County Dog Warden Randy Mustard botched the euthanization of a litter of puppies.

Mustard defended his actions and said that he rescued and placed 900 dogs in the last year but said that in some cases, the most humane option is to euthanize the animals, 10TV’s Glenn McEntyre reported.

“I keep dogs up to five or six months, because I don’t want to put down more dogs than I have to, because I love dogs myself,” Mustard said.

The issue came to light after a woman came to the Pike County Dog Pound looking for her missing dog, McEntyre reported.
