So, what is it about Republicans

and really, really bad actors?

Let's begin with Ronald Reagan - best known for Bedtime for Bonzo in which a chimp stole the movie (how prophetic!, in retrospect). Oh, he was also in an inspirational football movie about "The Gipper" - so inspirational that I don't remember anything else about it. How many people "remember the Gipper"? Anybody? Anybody? I thought so.

Then there was Ah-nold. You know, Conan the Barbarian (how apropos) . He was actually in some good movies. His best role was unarguably as the Terminator - a robot. A freakin' robot.

And now there's Clint Eastwood. Well, sort of - he's really more of a Libertarian "Paulite" who's decided to throw in with the Republicans.

I vaguely remember liking him as Rowdy Yates as a kid. But I was a kid. I don't know why I liked him, nor do I actually remember anything about him or Wagon Train, for that matter.

I also remember watching the Spaghetti Westerns, and hating them. I loved the way that Rustler's Rhapsody portrayed them. Yeah, I know that the Unfinished , I mean The Unforgiven, was portrayed as the "Last, Ultimate Western" and I remember how Silverado was portrayed the same way just a few years before. Personally, I loved The Unforgiven (I recently watched it again on Starz) but I thought that Morgan Freeman carried that movie. After him, Gene Hackman. After them, the Bookwriter. After them, the near-sighted kid. The message of the movie - whiskey can act like spinach to Popeye. I don't think that's what was intended, but that's what came through.

Since Starz seemed intent on old Eastwood movies this weekend, I also caught the last half of "Dirty Harry" Oh, c'mon! People talk about Clint's "timing", but the timing in this movie was obviously the result of well-planned edits. And Clint never really changed expression. It was the worst job of "acting" I have ever seen.

I'll admit he has gotten better over the years. well, with his experience he SHOULD have! But is it really HIM, or his scriptwriters, his editors, etc. etc.?

I can, after all, envision actors and everyone else involved in the process performing and Clint simply saying "do it BETTER" with his steely-eyed glint - and everyone else making the picture a work of art.

That's not genius, that's intimidation.

Maybe I'm wrong. I don't hear many people talking about the Inspiration they gained from Eastwood's direction like, for instance, Ron Howard where even Tom Hanks praised his every attention to detail, and demonstrated it on video.

Maybe I'm the wrong person to post, because I've always thought Clint Eastwood sucked since I outgrew Rowdy Yates.

That could have been a very funny bit, if a REAL actor had been to carry it off.

But, don't go by me. I always thought that Eastwood sucked as an actor.

...Gran Torino and of course Million Dollar Baby, the movie that made the freepers hate him.

You're right, he's made some damn good movies.
