Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsTo every lying Republican shitstain who claims that "The troops LOVE Trump":
I defy you to produce one single grunt that served with our Kurdish allies in Syria who is able produce a single sentence in reference to their C-in-C that would make it past the censors for the nightly news.
And by the way, folks, those Kurds didn't fight "side-by-side" with our guys. They were out front, and usually WAY out front. Tip of the fucking spear, baby.
We lost guys as well, and I honor their memory; but for the most part, we were uphill and in the rear, providing the Kurds with intel regarding where they could go to engage the bad guys. And THOUSANDS of those fighters were killed (including hundreds of women who were captured, raped, and then murdered.)
But now Lard Butt wants to cut them loose because he was in a hurry to get off the phone with Erdogan?
For the love of God, you sociopathic asshole, can't you TIVO Lou Fucking Dobbs in order spend a few more minutes ensuring that some of our staunchest allies aren't left to the murderous whim of yet another dictator whom you envy?
But rest assured, friends, Lindsey Graham's next "tsk-tsk, Mr.President" will be in ALL CAPS!
Sometimes the degree to which I've come to despise Trump and the enabling sycophants that surround him frightens me.

And those are the ones I think about sometimes when I can't sleep.

(6,831 posts)His utter disrespect for active duty and retired personnel renders him unfit for that title. (The video shot by American Priority and shown at the Doral this weekend, shows him pistol-whipping John McCain. I'm aware that neither the RNC nor his campaign had any part in the making of this filth - but he has fostered, endorsed and enjoyed this kind of trash.)
Not all presidents are going to have a military background and I'm okay with that. But for a president to display such contempt for our military and our veterans informs me that he cannot be viewed as the Commander in Chief.

Trump is a contemptible piece of chickenhawk shit, but he is what a minority of the American people elected him to be.
(And let's fix that STAT, shall we?)
I wish I wasn't too old to go back to our old mantra ... "It don't mean nothing" ... but sadly, I am.
And it does.

(15,328 posts)There is some indoctrination that goes on also. Such as allegiance to the country, understanding the rules of law and the chain of command.
AFAIK, there is no oath of fealty to a supreme leader, even if that leader has a moniker like Commander-in-Chief.
I've never served but I have worked with many that have, in most of the services and at non-officer and very high officer ranks including the JCS. Since Reagan and through W.
My experience is that 99% want to do what is right for the country. Not what's right for a "party" or a "leader". And I think they'll stand by their beliefs even when the tides from the top are pushing otherwise.
The new recruits do get their influences from their immediate superiors. They may come in with a grudge or a tendency but generally they'll understand reality.
I have hope and faith in our military as a whole.
Thanks!

I feel so awful about the disgraceful position into which that bastard has put our military. That they have to sit and watch while their Kurdish colleagues are stabbed in the back.
I know very little about the rules and protocols here. Can the military defy a reckless, not just ill-advised but a NON-advised decision by a so-called commander-in-chief?

(28,945 posts)Article 88, UCMJ specifically forbids commissioned officers from making contemptuous statements toward any gov't official. It applies whether s/he is active, reserve, even retired. Now what 'contemptuous' means is probably up to the court martial board. I'd bet neither Kelley nor Mattis will call Trump a "fucking moron", in public anyway.
Warrant officers and enlisted, it's not specified. However, there's always good old Article 134, "Conduct Unbecoming". Depending upon how vocal, public and/or nasty a member of the working class is, a charge might be made.

Further, let's get real, more slack would be cut for a four star than one and done enlistee. RHIP. In this case, the P stands for protection.

(6,831 posts)When the CinC shows up at a military base, it is a BIG HONKING deal. Whether you like the guy or not. It's a huge honor for your base to be visited. I remember once when the VP and the SecNav came to our TX base in the '80s. We turned the place upside down and inside out, cleaning, scrubbing, polishing. Everything had to pass the spit shine and white glove test. They even had the contingent of Marines out painting the rocks leading to the front gate. ("If it aint moving, paint it." Not kidding.
Just because these guys are smiling and holding onto hats that were thrust into their hands does not mean they were ecstatic about trump.

(462 posts)This Vet agrees with you. Betraying an Ally that just did most of the heavy lifting for you is lower than low. Not only will it be forever in potential allies' minds in the future, but it is also morally wrong to let your friends be slaughtered. No one will ever trust Americans to stand beside them in a fight. We have besmirched out Honor and the Honor of our Military. History will never forget this traitorous act. I will have no pity for this sorry bastard when it comes time for him to pay for this. And he will be held accountable someday.
