Oh, and would you f***ing look at that. The Kurds DID help us win World War 2. First as part of the counter-offensive to the Nazi-backed Iraqi coup of 1941. Later, some served in Albania, Italy and Greece.
Meanwhile Fred Trump apparently never got drafted
The Iraq Levies were an Allied WW2 force largely composed of Assyrian, Kurdish, Armenian, Turkman and Yazidi soldiers. All ethnic groups, I might add, represented in the Syrian Democratic Forces, the anti-ISIS coalition that Trump just betrayed.
There's a tremendous erased history of colonial soldiers serving in WW2. Indian, Arab, African soldiers in large numbers all contributed to the liberation of Axis territory including Europe in frontline combat.
But forgotten because they served under French & British flags.
His grandfather served in France, his great uncle helped liberate Buchenwald, his grandmother built B-29s.

Fred Trump otoh was arrested at a Klan rally in 1927. According to one press report at the time he was wearing robes.

Newest Reality
(12,712 posts)Keep in mind that one can be both educated to some degree and loyal. If the appeal to biases and emotion are stronger than reason and facts, it sways opinion.
For instance, I don't think that all farmers today are uneducated. It takes a lot of information and knowledge about agriculture and even technology to run a successful farm.
So, I come to the idea that Trump's manipulation techniques played directly into their vulnerabilities and bias. He most certainly has fooled many business people, (thousands). He uses many tools along the way. That was very obvious when he was campaigning and people of all kinds took his word for it. He touts his prestige, experience, success, (all of which are in question) and adds verbal manipulation and fallacies and combines that with a ruthless, underhanded disregard for ethics, empathy, etc.
When you are in The Spectacle doing a show, you can stick your finger right in the lizard-brain, (emotive reactive) and work people like a carnival barker. If they are not aware of what's going on, they fall prey to it. Very intelligent people even, as is proven, are not immune to becoming cult members.
That is how a confidence man works. There is a setup. The media assisted him because of the show he provided.

But I think what Traitor Trump meant when he said Kurds did not help in WWII, is that they didn't help the Nazis. That's the group the orange idiot identifies with.
He didn't mean America.

The country was led by a national hero coming toward WWII who was adamant that Turkey not side with Hitler, he made the leaders that took over after he died promise, their "solution" was to sign neutrality pacts with the Allies and Germany (main Axis power).

(754 posts)The president's uncle, an electrical engineering professor at MIT, worked on the development of radar in WWII.
He may've worked in England during part of the war as part of a joint development. It looks like his
involvement was extensive.
Radar was a big deal for the Allies and a real wonder weapon that helped win the war. I give him a pass.
I guess this side of the family went straight.
I've never heard of John Trump's descendents in any context with the president. Perhaps the branches aren't that close.

(11,885 posts)Tries to promote lies and propaganda to justify his actions, when he dodged the draft when he should have served. His turning his back on our allies with the Republicans help now is just more foreign policy disasters from the puppet of Putin. Wonder how much trump cost to do this from Turkey? Every Republican not standing up against trump has no place in OUR government. No country should trust trump and the GOP again. Trumps intentionally hurting allies , shaking them down for money too, and lying to do it.

I mean the Drumpfs are an historically unpatriotic and treasonous clan, out just to enrich themselves. Name one good cause Trump is known for? Pimps, traitors, money launderers, and slum lording is their claim to fame. I will note that Eric Trump did create a foundation to help kids which was pretty successful until Donald found out that Trump properties were donating the venue. When he found out, Dotard was furious and screamed everyone pays. After that the venue fees increased every year. What a loathsome truly evil person he is.

(27,830 posts)Clearly not anyone related to either of his parents. I've tried to find out if his brother possibly went to Vietnam, but I can't find anything to show that he did. Obviously, no one from Melania or Ivana's families did.
The only possibility of anyone connected to him would be if someone from Marla Maples' family did (considering that she's from Georgia, there's a good possibility). But my very cursory search didn't find anything about it, though I did learn that her father was an Elvis impersonator and her mother is distantly related to Heather Locklear. Anyway, digression aside, I don't think he'd count Marla Maples as family, anyway.
I would love for some reporter to ask him directly if anyone from the Trump family has ever served in the US military. Now, I don't think that having family who've served in the military necessarily makes a difference to whether one is qualified to hold office. But the way he hugs the flag and yammers on about "our" armed forces makes me wish someone would just force the issue. I'd love to see him twist and turn. And it would probably shock much of his base to find out the answer.

(4,238 posts)Part of the Assyrian platoon. In fact, the Levies were predominantly Assyrian, something that would later be used against them as "proof" that the Christian Assyrians would always side with their religious brethern over their neighbors. My maternal side is from Habbaniya, Iraq, where most Assyrians lived at the time, near the RAF base. The allies promised us a safe haven in our indigenous land in exchange for our services, but of course, they never did follow through on that. Shocking, I know.
