"George W. Bush is not your f*cking grandpa!"

In response to Ellen's public embrace of George W.

[link:https://jezebel.com/george-w-bush-is-not-your-fucking-grandpa-1838885857/amp?__twitter_impression=true&fbclid=IwAR3rrTeEANSQhgo-IsJ2fiRl6GrTnEqkitBjEW-gmSYq7WlscWUgUorR2Nw|

But Bush isn’t your Aunt Karen who makes off-color comments at Thanksgiving, or a friend who’s supporting a different candidate during the primaries. He was the 43rd president of the United States who, during his eight-year tenure, oversaw the invasion of Iraq under false pretenses, which led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people during his administration alone. He’s the harbinger of the disastrous aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the lead up to the Great Recession. The sliver of decent beliefs he held—like a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, an impossible platform for a contemporary Republicans to run on today—are mitigated by his endorsement of the regressive Federal Marriage Amendment, the implementation of the Bush tax cuts, and human rights nightmares like Abu Ghraib.

He loved Bushy, hated Obama, watched Fox News and he and my mom fell asleep listening to Limbaugh.

But you know what he was a great dad, who loved the ones he loved dearly and fully.

So I get why Ellen hugged him. I get why she respected him.

And if George Bush was nice to me, I’d be nice to him.

with Reagan and GHW Bush. But I do believe that people can feel remorse for what they have done in the past and move on with their lives to become productive members of society. I think that GW has searched his soul and found the part that needs to be healed. That is what activated his interest in painting. Michelle Obama has a very similar relationship with GW which is what helped me to see beyond my initial reaction to him.

At least in a normal world (not dump's).

Even with the most despotic or most antagonistic regimes, there needs to be some dialog. Frequently expected to maybe provoke an in-kind response.

I can't imagine a CEO of any organization (say the USA) making absolute edicts about how she would treat all the other CEOs.

As we've seen just now, there's a lot of "quid pro quo" going on.

Dump is just the lousiest practitioner the world has seen.

He gets shafted on his quid constantly.

Wed Oct 9, 2019, 08:30 PM
Oct 2019

. . . It seemed as though there was a fairly regular parade of video phone recordings of RW a-holes behaving like a-holes in public because
they felt empowered to declare their angry self-righteousness out in public. Putting aside the fact that we, liberal sorts, disagreed with their point of view, we really wished that they would confine their meaness of spirit to their own homes.

Now, a liberal icon/celebrity is caught on camera being gracious to someone who supported/enacted policies that we diaagree with. Essentially, people are bashing Degeneres for not behaving like an a-hole in public. The "we" in this case, are angry at Bush and feel betrayed because someone isn't expressing our anger in a social venue.

Like it or not, almost every person in the public eye is forced to rub elbows and engage in polite encounters with other public figures during social/entertainment events. Like it or not, we all share this world with people whose views we disagree with--often vehemently. One writer pointed out that living in a community with people whose opinions you hate is the essence of democracy.

If the extreme, litmus-test liberals are going to be such purists, then why have we tolerated Ruth Bader Ginsburg for working civilly besides Clarence Thomas? Shouldn't she have spat in his face by now?
