Trump seeks to distance himself from Turkish invasion of Syria

A little late for that. Again, not his responsibility or problem.

Trump seeks to distance himself from Turkish invasion of Syria
By Brett Samuels - 10/09/19 01:23 PM EDT

President Trump on Wednesday sought to distance himself from a Turkish military operation against Kurdish forces in northeastern Syria, days after he drew bipartisan backlash for announcing U.S. troops would vacate the area.

"This morning, Turkey, a NATO member, invaded Syria. The United States does not endorse this attack and has made it clear to Turkey that this operation is a bad idea," Trump said in a statement issued by the White House.

The president clarified that there are no American soldiers in the area where the Turkish incursion is taking place, and defended his efforts to pull U.S. forces out of the region, even as his strategy has faced relentless criticism from Republicans and Democrats alike.

"From the first day I entered the political arena, I made it clear that I did not want to fight these endless, senseless wars—especially those that don’t benefit the United States," Trump said.

The only thing keeping Turkey from hitting the Kurds was the presence and support of US soldiers in the theater. Trump pulling the troops out was a green light for Turkey to attack. Regardless of what the idiot said, it is a direct consequence of his actions. Where are the "crippling sanctions" and the destruction of the Turkish economy he promised. It is all bullshit from a coward who couldn't take an angry phone call and so sold out staunch allies of the US.

You don't benefit the United States anymore. You're on your own. Thanks for leading the battle against ISIS back in the day and saving American military personnel from having to be at the fore, but your usefulness is at an end.

Liz Cheney is baffled by this development, if that's any consolation.

I know the U.S. Troops supposedly pulled out of the area. I question if they had enough time to get everyone out since Trump sandbagged the Kurds.
