US diplomat's wife, 42, who 'ran over and killed' British teen outside RAF base before fleeing named

The wife of a US diplomat who fatally hit a British teenager and left the country is Anne Sacoolas, it has been revealed.

Mrs Sacoolas, 42, claimed diplomatic immunity and left the UK for America despite facing possible charges of causing death by dangerous driving.

Harry Dunn, 19, suffered horrific multiple injuries in the collision outside RAF Croughton – a US intelligence hub in Britain.

The US embassy has refused to grant Northamptonshire Police a waiver to interview her as a suspect.

As anger over the actions intensified, Harry’s mother Charlotte Charles called on the Prime Minister to ‘get on the phone’ to President Trump.

Mrs Charles, 44, told the Daily Mail: ‘We would ask Boris Johnson himself, if he hasn’t already, to call President Trump and urge him to right this wrong. It’s inhumane what has happened to us. Please. I’m begging you. Please help us. We won’t be able to grieve and move on and try put the pieces of our shattered lives together until we get justice for Harry.’

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has called on the US ambassador to ‘reconsider’ the decision but it is understood so far his appeals have been refused.

In France and Germany I felt much safer than here. Even doing 110 on the Autobahn. Because at that speed you do one thing: concentrate on driving.

Italy was, well interesting. But of course all those countries drive on the right like we do.

But I have decided I will not drive in the U.K. or Ireland. Too much room for error on my part.

where they drive on the opposite side of the road that we do. We are concerned our instincts will kick in and we will make a mistake.

In one of the stories I read, the police said she had told them she had no plans to leave the country.

What a sad human being she must be. I hope she faces ostracism from her community.

Sadly, the shitstain would undoubtedly applaud this behavior. Any other president would probably quietly remove the husband from his job.

Sounds like bullshit to me if that is the case. Anyway, if someone loses their life, the person responsible should have to face justice.

immunity for lower-ranking officials:

https://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=125736594

The online magazine Slate.com investigated that for its Explainer column. Here's senior editor Andy Bowers.

Mr. ANDY BOWERS (Senior Editor, Slate.com): It depends how high you rank at your embassy. A top diplomat does, indeed, have full immunity, as do any deputies or families members. That means a foreign ambassador can commit just about any crime, from running a red light to murder, and escape prosecution.

Lower ranking officials have what's called functional immunity, that means they're safe as long the crime is committed as part of their diplomatic work. So a consular staffer who punches a U.S. official during a meeting would be fine. But the same punch thrown at a bar on the weekend could land him in jail.

Embassy service staff such as kitchen workers have no special status.

I haven't found anything so far indicating Jonathan Sacoolas is a top diplomat or deputy of some sort.

He was working at the super-secret U.S. Air Force communications center at RAF Croughton, and the U.K. extends Diplomatic Immunity to Americans working there.

RAF Croughton houses the 422nd Air Base Group whose function is to provide installation support, services, force protection, and worldwide communications across the entire spectrum of operations. The group is located in the UK and supports NATO, US European Command, US Central Command, Air Force Special Operations Command, US Department of State operations and Ministry of Defence operations. The group sustains more than 450 C2 circuits and supports 25 percent of all European Theater to continental United States (CONUS) communications.

that happened in Pennsylvania where drivers hit pedestrians, then left the scene without stopping. One involved the wife of a Phila Eagles football team executive whose wife hit a young man while he was changing a tire on the side of the road. She just left him to die. She figured her hubby's status would give her immunity, but she was wrong there was plenty of outrage when she was identified. She ultimately spent nearly a year in jail.

Then there was former R state rep Tom Druce who was drunk, hit and killed a pedestrian (a USMC vet), then covered it up and iced the cake by filing a false insurance claim. He got 2-4 years in jail and 100,000 dollar fine.
