I haven't heard anything about him in years. Sorry it had to be the news that it was.

I'd been following Rip, and enjoying his brand of humor as a young teen of about 14 (I'm almost 60 now). I never heard anything negative about him ever.

His intelligence was identified early on while going through high school, but he also had to suffer through a not so happy life growing up, so he used comedy to "defuse" tense situations. Also as a young man, he served as a Capitol Hill Page. Later on, he served a short stint in the military.

I remember once I saw him not being so funny, and that was when he was on Tom Snyder's Late Night Show (I think it was Tom's show), and he maintained that he was sexually assaulted/harassed by a famous congressperson during his time as a page. Years later when asked about the sexual assault accusations, he tried downplaying what he said, but to me he looked way too serious (And him being serious is you know--weird for him ) when he was talking about it years ago, and although we know people aren't always honest about things, I don't feel that the person I saw that night was flippant enough to throw a sexual assault accusation out there like that.

Anyway, RIP ...

Rip .....

He wouldn't want tears concerning HIS passing ... He'd want this:
