I am an old guy,, for truth sake, I have managed people for over 30 years and have been on DU for 2 years. Here is what I am seeing with my people experience.
Way,way too many repliers here, who answer without reading the full post. OMG I read them , so many great,,exp Dems, who are posting, and have replies that have nothing to do with the OP! Seems now ,,we read headline,we respond and go to bed feeling good about us.
Koz is bringing a new fight,, I have contacted Du,, I am tired of hearing people respond to me,who obviously did not read my original post. I am finished reading these kind of replies, we are members of DEMORATICUNDERGROUND, time to prove what you believe. I was not a member last election, but I read this site as a guest. So damn many posts about Bernie,, and then Bernie was screwed and Primaries were rigged,, and a lot of you all that were here,, voted for Jill,or not at all. Hey you all,,don't bitch now.
This is DemocraticUnderground, we disagree,,sometimes we fight. But bottom line,,in the end,, WE read,we learn,we know, and By God we support!!! Doesn't matter,,there is no Jill , Ralph, or anyone else,, I speak out of turn, but I will say, I kind of know a lot of old timers here, and I will say,,it is about the WHOLE GOOD. Wanna read snips and respond? Time to look in mirror , my DU friend,,Im old, served my country voluntary , and with this post I till do the same by volunteer.
I am too old to serve my country physically again,, I am reading responses from people young enough to serve, but post very uninformed replies.. I beg of you all!!!!
Nov 2020 is coming soon,, As much as I don't like,,USA is in a 2 party system. Make up your mind,, no 3rd party, no "not voting" ,, Just believe an old guy with his heart. And what did those thoughts get us in 2016? I start my online battle now for America.

(36,860 posts)DU's core base is older/elderly. Sadly, DU has not attracted a whole lot of new & fresh voices in the last several years. The site is aging out and losing traffic.

(51,308 posts)Spot on.
Besides, how can the OP even know how old a poster is?

(13,485 posts)I agree though that it seems it's a blue hair crowd now. Sad.

(25,364 posts)There is confirmation bias.
Also there are people who sit quiet on threads where they don't want to appear oppositional. Flaming in threads can result in negative consequences.

(31,261 posts)The people who complain the loudest vote third party during pivotal elections. All I hear is Susan Sarandon and Cornel West complaining about how the system is messed up, yet their wholehearted support of third party spoiler candidates ended with republicans elected to office, republicans who got us into all manner of wrong-headed shit and set us backward.

(12,480 posts)You are right,no time to be sloppy misreading posts. We are all in the left spectrum and we are all
DU ers. We know what's at stake.
Why don't we stop the bullshit and support the people snatching democracy from the jaws of sociopaths.

(36,108 posts)or that they'll vote for a 3rd party candidate

(2,227 posts)We are all more knowledgeable when others share their wisdom.
As another older poster, I must confess that I am sometimes guilty of missing the point, flying off half-cocked (whatever the hell THAT means... )
I am under my second incarnation, joined DU the first time in, I believe, 2001. But even so, under the first incarnation only had a little over 3,000 posts. So I am not prolific. I am now retired, so that may change....
I do tend to read the posts, but maybe not the info linked to in the post.
I also tend to reply to comments to the original OP, which may have pushed one of my buttons.
I tend to rant. And the longer I rant, the more off topic I may get... (and EVERY time I re-read the preview, I think of something else to add...)
The thing is, if we have more years on us, more miles under our belt, we DO tend to have more life experience to draw on. That is something you aren't born with, but have to live through. We have also seen more, from different time perspectives, and may be able to connect the dots a little more readily. So we have to be patient when trying to bring along younger posters, to a view they may not have considered.
Younger posters, due to growing up with a technology that exploits "multi-tasking" (which means you are doing many things, poorly), may have a much shorter attention span, and are quick to pop off a quick retort. I have been quick with the retort myself, but am working on that.
All this to say, more power to you. Keep on sharing. None of us are too old to learn new tricks, but we also have experienced what may, or may not, work. As long as we don't resort to condescension we can help others in that area.
We (boomers) aren't going to be here much longer. But those of us who are still involved DO tend to be reliable, show up, and vote. However, many members of our generation have given up. We have to convince those who have, that at least for one more election, EVERY VOTE COUNTS (disallowing the EC, of course ). We STILL have the capacity to be the most influential generation, IF we all participate, and ESPECIALLY if we join with the youngest of our new voters. Together we can be unstoppable. WE can be the kind of change that is needed to meet the seemingly insurmountable challenges that we, and the PLANET, are facing.
The one thing I can do this next election is to help as many like-minded democrats as I can, make it to the polls. And I intend to do just that. I hope to spend all day ferrying democrats to the polls.
So hang in there with the rest of us. Hopefully we will get to see a major correction to the travesty now taking place. And then we will celebrate. And THAT is something we know how to do!!!

(31,011 posts)That's just plain wrong, period.
No one should give more weight to an opinion of one who has served in the military. That's not how it works.
I've served, but my views are not infallible. My experience is not infallible and neither is yours.
I've been here a lot longer than two years. People not reading the full posts are nothing new here.
Having written posts with probably five or six sentences a lot of times, plenty have just responded to the subject title alone.
I'm pretty okay with that.
