Most of us learned on the grade school playground that "just kidding" was not an automatic

excuse or cancellation of some insult or even a hurtful truth flung at a playmate.

"I'm the best shortstop in the whole school! JUST KIDDING!" was light-hearted and totally acceptable banter. However, "Your dad is a drunk. JUST KIDDING!" could cost you a tooth.

It's a shame little Donny didn't go to my school. We'd have been very happy to educate him.

He was the bully. A good way to keep other kids at a distance.
Wasn't until he got into military school that his constant bragging was called out by peers.
didn't stop him, of course.

It is notable that he had no school pals.
