Do you plan to vote in Texas' November elections? The time to register is now

t may be easy to miss amid the 2020 election buzz, but there is an election this November. And Texans hoping to participate have until Monday to register to vote.

Who and what Texans get to vote for will depend on where they live.

What seats are up for grabs?

Three special elections were called for November where 27 candidates are vying to fill state House seats, including one that Democrats hope to flip.

The most closely watched race will be in House District 28, where Rep. John Zerwas, R-Richmond, has stepped down to join the University of Texas system. Democrats were already targeting this district in their efforts to take over the House majority next year.

What else is on the ballot?

Texas voters will decide on 10 proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution. Those amendments include a proposal focused on banning a state income tax and another that would give Texas parks and historic sites the maximum funding authorized from a sales tax on sporting goods.

and I've generally been a boring old stick-in-the-mud about obeying election law

On the other hand, I guess I should give the idea prayerful consideration if Rudy the Ghoul and Barr are going to travel the world recruiting foreign interventions

I'll have to review all the amendments.

Plus Tarrant County has new electronic touch screens. The new machines will actually print out the ballots for each and every voter. Also we can now vote anything where in the county on election day instead of your respective precincts. Which will allow more people to vote. We have turned a good deal of voters for coming to our location because it has always been an early voting location.

Thanks for the thread Randy!!!

I seldom miss an election. I remember when I was old enough to vote, I hadn't been married long and we didn't have much money. I had to pay a poll tax in order to vote (this is Texas) and had to squeeze the money to pay for the tax out of my grocery budget. I did it, we ate lean for a week, but I was so excited to vote. This was around 1960.

Before the election, I always read the ballot items which are posted in the Dallas Morning News so nothing can sneak by me. When I drive up to vote, I always remember that if we hadn't had a group of very brave men way back in 1776, I wouldn't be in the voting booth and we'd probably be ruled by a king.

I wish all the Dems in Texas would vote. if they did, the state go blue and Texas would be the most powerful political state in the union.
