But the NRA funnels much money to politicians. Money driving and determining what is seen as achievable.

"Supporters of stricter gun laws are less likely to contact elected officials

Large majorities of Americans support several specific policies intended to limit access to guns, including expanded background checks and restrictions on sales to the mentally ill. But relatively few Americans actually contact public officials to express their views, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted in the spring.....

Among gun owners, 28% say they have ever given money to an organization like this, including 12% of who have done so in the past year. The same is true for just 10% of non-owners, including 6% who have done so in the past year."

went there and announced he planned to take guns from folks.

Even if he loses, this candidate will almost certainly endorse the primary winner and you can bet your last dollar that the right will be doing their damnedest to make the two look like BFFs.

Good job Beto owning the narrative. Kowtowing to NRA bullshit about slippery slopes has worked so well so far...

If Beto had not said he wants to collect assault weapons, then we could come to a perfectly reasonable compromise... .

13. Beto torpedoed his chances of ever becoming president

A goodly number of Dem representatives that were voted in in 2018 came from red districts that they won by razor thin margins. Beto handed the right some top shelf ad material to use against these reps.

The right will say what it says. So will you it seems. At least Beto is standing up for his ideals.

6. I hope not, no upside at all talking about guns

It ALWAYS ends up with the ‘Democrats are gonna take your guns’. Better to leave it alone, get a majority, and pass sensible laws. No sense getting bogged down with all the minute details from each candidate trying to out-due each other. This issue is divisive and should be shelved until after we win.

They will absolutely say democrats want to take away guns regardless of what we do or say. But this time I think the gun control issue is going to mobilize as many of our voters as "taking away guns" always does for them. Hopefully a net positive gain of new younger voters for us this time.

If Democrats could just get a unified position on this it would be easier to defend. We are all over on the issue and I hate seeing our candidates arguing about it. They just need to say ‘give us majority’ and we’ll fix it. I love seeing the passion of the younger voters.

and each candidate is trying out their individual messages. My point would be we need a unified message going into the general election.
