Astounding documentary by BBC in 2000- Reputations: the Secret World of Richard Nixon

Mind blowing info. I never knew such as that Nixon beat his wife, Pat, after he lost '62 election and she wanted to divorce him. I also had been unaware of his drug use and unstable personality.

I had to stop watching and take a break...

I think Oliver Stone's movie "Nixon" is fairly accurate. roamer65 Oct 2019 #4

I had heard it said that he had a bad drinking problem, but I had no idea he beat Pat or had drug issues also. I sent that link home to watch this weekend.

I watched part 1 last night and was so mesmerized that I completely screwing up the crochet I was working on!

I recall being a Freshman in college and hearing a professor say something negative about this country I was so taken aback I called my dad that night. I am 55, and I think a lid was somehow put on saying negative things about the country (negative truths) between the end of Viet Nam and my growing up. Probably the see no evil-hear no evil Reagan is God years.

I have to be honest...I don't believe he hit Pat. Nixon is the boogeyman and something like that could be easy to play Chinese whispers with.

Richard Nixon was a lot of things. Being a father and husband semed to me the only thing he was ethical as. I read a biography that he never got over his brother's death from TB as a child.
