(18,770 posts)Had to be Rockford. He used to tool around in a Firebird, solving crimes. Can't top that.

(12,858 posts)That was one of the best TV shows ever.
His 2 brothers on show were not nearly so cool as he was.
Do ya think I liked the show so much because I was 17 and had a major crush on him?
He was ok as Rockford, but as Maverick was way better.

(28,941 posts)If he did nothing else, he brought it home with that film.
He was great in that! Very believable, He was a combat vet (Korea) with 2 Purple Hearts.
He did a lot of light comedy and romances, but he also did some amazing dramas. I loved the guy

(28,941 posts)Didn't know about the Purple Hearts. Two, that's at least one too many. Duty done, Soldier.
Hendley, the Scrounger.

(7,495 posts)David McCallum (Ashley-Pitt), John Leyton (Willie, the other tunnel king) and Karl-Otto Alberty (Herr Bartlett, your german is good, so have I heard is your french). Karl-Otto was also in Battle of the Bulge, Battle of Britain and Kelly's Heroes.

(28,266 posts)That, and "Victor Victoria." Plenty of movie stars have gotten rich off of far lesser performances.

(6,556 posts)where his co-star was Sally Fields. Loved that movie, although to be fair I liked all of his movies!

(28,941 posts)His character was written with depth and development; he was equal to the task.
It was his favorite role.

(66,400 posts)I always liked him for that, especially since it seemed so incongruous in a 'tough-guy' from Oklahoma.

(3,929 posts)I was raised by grandparents who lived through Dust Bowl and Depression. To them, FDR and Eleanor were heros. Gandpa said flat out, "We're Democrats!"

(56,828 posts)at the time or were they just holding hands as part of the march?
kudos to them if they were dating at the time - there were not a huge number of interracial relationships back at the time.

(3,153 posts)he was married in 1956 and remained so until his death one month before their 58th wedding anniversary!
Also had two purple hearts from the Korean war.

(3,568 posts)Fun to watch in everything he was in. Movies or tv, he was always good. Hard to pick a favorite role, but Victor/Victoria comes to mind right now.
Extraordinarily handsome, extraordinarily successful, and extraordinarily decent.

(1,061 posts)Diahann's 1968 tv show Julia was ground breaking. James met his wife at a party in 1956 and they married 14 days later. They remained married for 58 years. You don't see that often in Hollywood.

(296 posts)Lots of comments about James Garner, read his auto-bio, or any other accurate record of his service in Korea. It is TRULY HAIRRAISING. If memory serves, his infantry unit was reduced from 130 men to only 30 stragglers, who were then bombed with phosphorus bombs in a "friendly fire" mistake. He didn't like bullies, and anyone who was doing the bullying. Simple, modest, humble, COURAGE
