Trump Coming to Minneapolis Next Thursday
He'll be holding one of his rallies at Target Center, home of the Minnesota Timberwolves basketball team. When is he arriving? Right at rush hour, which will be massively disrupted as he makes his way from MSP airport to and from the venue. Target Center is right downtown, too.
On WCCO radio this morning, people who are clamoring for free tickets on the Trump campaign website were encouraged to show up early that morning to get processed if they plan to attend. I guess they're supposed to wait all day to hear from the bloviating MF45.
I'll be at home in St. Paul. I do not go to events in Minneapolis at rush hour. Ever. In fact, I do not go to Minneapolis during rush hour for any reason. I'd like to protest Trump, but getting there and getting back looks like a futile exercise to me.
How will the turnout look? That's hard to say, really. People know what a pain in the ass it is to attend any function at Target Center that begins during rush hour. We have light rail transit that stops there, so that's an option, but it's not adequate for a really large crowd, and there's that early arrival requirement, hours before the event begins. I mean, you have to be checked out to make sure you're not going to protest from inside the venue. And then there are the metal detectors and pat-downs to protect our very unpopular President.
What will Trump do at this rally? That's easy. He'll rant on about "corruption" and the nasty Democrats who are trying to impeach him. He'll be speaking to a MAGA-hat-wearing crowd that has come into town from the hinterlands of Minnesota and the right-wing suburbs to the north and south. Those folks hate coming into Minneapolis, too, but their demigod will be there, so, they'll show up.
Trump couldn't have planned for a more disruptive venue and time for this rally. It is prime disruption time in a part of Minneapolis that is already too crowded and is so near a complex of freeways that will be jammed by people leaving work and trying to get home. Won't they be surprised to find their homebound routes closed for security reasons? That's also a busy time at MSP airport, since a lot of flights leave MSP around that time to accommodate business folks who need to get somewhere other than Minneapolis after completing their business in the city.
So, Trump is coming, and it's going to be yet another disaster, led by our Disaster-in-Chief. I'll stay home.
