...."Trump is scheduled to travel to Florida on Thursday where hell deliver a wide-ranging speech on his administrations health policy, and announce an executive order regarding the Medicare system, titled Protecting Medicare from Socialist Destruction.
Trumps remarks will focus on Medicare Advantage, a program in which private insurers including UnitedHealth Group Inc. and Humana Inc. provide benefits in place of the government, according to two people familiar with the matter. They spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss Trumps announcement before it is made public.".....(more)

(21,408 posts)What are the facts, the details?
Medicare pays 80% of health care costs, Medicare Advantage type plans can be purchased to pick up the remaining 20%. Is Trump trying to replace Medicare with Medicare Advantage? That would be a complete disaster.
If Trump messes with Medicare through an Executive order he is toast. This has to be some kind of smoke screen that signifies nothing, I hope.

We don't know all the details of 45's plan yet, but it appears that he wants to 1) escalate the privatization of Medicare and 2) try to make seniors think that calls for universal health care will undermine health care for seniors, creating a potential wedge issue going into the election.

(11,885 posts)Are something that'll adversely effect everyone. The lie he was for better health care once again exposes his true intentions, while he cons people into believing his lies. Just remember he lied saying Mexico would pay for his wall, he lied when he claimed he'd lower drug prices while taking in millions from big pharma, and did the same thing with coal taking in millions then telling coal miners he'd protect them when he knew he wouldn't, or like his claims he'd help the farmers, or have a better health care plan, all intentional lies from him to use to con people out of their vote. Remember he said he wouldn't touch Medicaid, Medicare, or Social Security, then did when they included cuts to their tax scam bill, remember that? I do, he's a liar.

(804 posts)He will be destroyed. Maybe retirees in the Villages don't care, but the rest of America does. AARP will get involved for sure. There are a majority of us on Medicare that did not pick an Advantage Plan for good reasons. We do not want to be limited to certain doctors and facilities "in network."
Tanuki
(14,921 posts)traditional Medicare. The Medicare Advantage plans vary, but from what I have seen, they can really come up short in ways that people are not prepared for. Fine as long as you stay healthy, and as you point out, your choice of doctors and other providers may be sharply limited.
Desert grandma
(804 posts)Could he eliminate traditional Medicare and force everyone on to Advantage Plans? Surely he cannot do that.. I agree totally about Original Medicare. With that and a good supplement plan, almost everything is covered, without co-pays and limits to physicians and/or facilities.

(9,326 posts)Ask a social worker that has to deal with all kinds of insurance plans. People always think they are covered for things that they are not covered for. No thats Medicare, you have Medicare Advantage.
Desert grandma
(804 posts)Advantage plans require co-pays and have limited providers, unlike original Medicare. They are "no bueno" in my opinion. You can change back to original Medicare during open enrollment as someone pointed out, however to add a supplement plan (most people want one) you will have to go through an underwriting process and each individual carrier has their own criteria.
