(13,061 posts)That does take superhuman strength to forgive the person who took away your loved one. This is such a tragic story overall. Hopefully some good will come of it and the families can heal.

(36,917 posts)I have not followed all the details of the trial.
Was the door open?
Even if it was unlocked, her key would not have turned.

(36,917 posts)Her door was not defective?
Not trying to play devil's advocate.
Just wondering how this line of investigation would have played out.

(52,328 posts)Not only did she land on the wrong apartment unit, but she also missed several clues.
Defective door, unlocked, bright red doormat, and that marijuana odor that police always are able to identify in any other situation....

(36,917 posts)Good! I already agreed with the verdict.
An earlier article mentioned that they had had a relationship.
Maybe it got inconvenient to her.

(16,887 posts)I have many mixed emotions about Amber Guyger and her killing of Jean Botham.
But this picture says so much that is important.
Whatever your feelings may be about her, what happened, what she has done in the past, what happened when she killed Jean Botham or what she did right after - I believe in forgiveness and I believe in making something good out of something wrong.
Cops don't usually get found guilty or do time. She will - 10 years, maybe 5 if she gets early parole. Either way, this is a big deal, even if you think she should have had the maximum.
I believe at age 31, Amber Guyger has the opportunity to do something right after this. She needs to serve her time. She will be 41 when she would get out, possible 36. She will still be young. Jean Botham will never have that time with his friends or family. But maybe, just maybe there can be something positive that comes out of all this and it started with that Hug from Jean Botham's brother.
I hope that Amber can take this time to learn about our institutional racism and even see it from the inside of the prison system. Maybe she can take the time to study and get a law degree. Maybe she can study and learn things that when she gets out at age 36-41 she can go help and do social justice work or educate. Represent minorities or families that have been killed by law enforcement. Work to changing the system.
I want to see from that Hug, Amber Guyger learn and do good.
Jean Botham will never be back. But maybe something can come from his death that will result in some good.

Why is everyone trying to comfort the white princess killer cop?
She didn't even TRY to administer FIRST AID!

(118,793 posts)that african americans seem to need to be superheroes to make it up to america like they have done something wrong or to get recognition and that this kid who lost his brother was amazing. Juxtaposed issues but important both.
