Trump is throwing around the word "Perfect" when he speaks of his call to the Ukraine president.
I don't know why it bothers me - but there is something 'imperfect' about his use of that word.
Why did he settle on 'perfect'? Why does he keep repeating it? Is there any significance behind his use of the word
"perfect"?
Does his use of the word "perfect" bother anyone else here?

(25,253 posts)Perhaps it was his father demanding that he be 'perfect' when he was a kid
I don't know why - but I think too that there is something 'psychologically' going on in his head by the use of the word 'perfect'.

(41,987 posts)I think perfection is the only thing he can imagine himself to be. And he knows hes drowning. He knows how much danger hes in and its completely possible for people to compartmentalize thoughts that cant exist together. But they dont tend to be erudite at such times. Hes a very, very loud deer in the headlights.
And btw hes very, very dangerous. If I was counseling family Id encourage them to get out of the house.

(53,410 posts)Imagine what it was like to be a small child around that man. They would be forced to please him, to show allegiance only to him, to submit to him in everything. There is no mystery as to why his daughter acts like a plastic toy with every single move being so painfully deliberate. In a deep psychological way she was forced to please him, or suffer the consequences that we see him using now against everyone.
And his sons had it worse. To this day they exist to please him.

(53,410 posts)In the past his language seems to give away something we find out later.
As chaotic as Trump is, he is predictable when you know him long enough. And one of the most predictable things he does is talk in code. He doesnt come out and say things directly, but Ive known for a long time that when he speaks publicly, like to the media, he is always talking TO his base.
That explains why hes hinting at civil war now. Hes doing his code talk.
His code talk is so no one can implicate him in anything that happens. He can claim innocence or that hes just kidding.
So yeah, Im waiting to see what the code word perfect is about.

When I hear "perfect" I think of trumpft getting everything he want's from the call, he thinks the won.

(52,256 posts)his buildings aren't good, they're the greatest in the world.
if a number is involved, such as his net worth, every time he tells the story the number goes up.
he claimed he was the healthiest president ever.
same story here.
the phone call didn't merely comply with relevant legal and ethical standards, it was "perfect".
it's a superlative that doesn't apply, but donnie needs to emphasize things, so he goes for a super-superlative. "perfect" is that kind of adjective, even if it doesn't really apply to not violating legal and ethical rules.
when we were trying to start a family, we had some difficulties, and i we had some tests done.
the doctor said i had "super sperm". i laughed because i immediately saw what he was doing. i know there's no such thing as "super sperm", there's either a problem or there's not a problem. not having a problem is merely "normal". but typical male egos much prefer hearing a term like "super sperm", so that's the term they use in that office for what i would call "normal".
donnie's the same way, except he does it mostly to flatter himself, not others.
so the phone call wasn't "normal" or "completely appropriate", because that's not good enough.
hence, "perfect".

(24,653 posts)The adjective makes absolutely no sense in the context of a phone call like that. It does, however, make sense coming from someone who grew up fruitlessly yearning for approval he never got from his parents.

(65,409 posts)perseveration, which is something Trump suffers from generally and is a sign of deteriorating cognitive function.
Perseveration according to psychology, psychiatry, and speech-language pathology, is the repetition of a particular response regardless of the absence or cessation of a stimulus. It is usually caused by a brain injury or other organic disorder. Symptoms include "lacking ability to transition or switch ideas appropriately with the social context, as evidenced by the repetition of words or gestures after they have ceased to be socially relevant or appropriate", or the "act or task of doing so", and are not better described as stereotypy.
Once he chooses a word (no matter how odd or inappropriate the word might be), he can't stop returning to that word. The same thing happens with ideas. He harps endlessly on a word or an idea, even in the most inappropriate circumstances.
I have said all along that he shows signs of dementia. His father's Alzheimer's started manifesting its early signs around age 70, and I think that is what we are seeing with Trump.
Don't forget how often we have seen him wander off in confusion in a way that strongly suggests sundowning. BTW, his lack of inhibition and impulse control in public also suggest dementia. He has always been a malignant narcissist and an a-hole, but he could pretend to be relatively normal in public, but now, with all the cameras in the world focused on him, he can't even pretend when to do so would benefit him.

(1 post)Dr. Bandy Lee, a forensic psychiatrist at the Yale School of Medicine, and editor of the book, The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump, has expanded the theory of "shared psychosis." This theory is most applicable to families that have a mentally ill member. However, society can suffer from a shared psychosis when a leader is mentally ill. We see evidence of this among Trump's most ardent supporters, regardless of his obvious instability.
Interestingly, Dershowitz used "perfect" to describe his sex life.

(16,616 posts)He argues that the charismatic leader and the (narcissistically-injured) followers need or even "create" each other. Trump needs constant reinforcement for his damaged ego, and his audience needs a reassuring father figure to tell them everything is okay and "I can fix it all." They feed off each other. I've been saying it's like two parasites locked in a kiss.
"Dangerous Charisma" is good but "Dangerous Case" is better IMO. There is an essay by Post in the updated and expanded "Dangerous Case" in which he lays out his analogy.

(16,616 posts)But I do think it's his way of insisting that reality is different than it actually is.
Dr. Bandy Lee would likely translate Trump's use of the word as "imperfect" or "deeply flawed."
"The telephone call was deeply flawed and everyone knows it."
"I had two terrible phone calls, two of the worst phones calls ever had with world leaders." (from his press event the other day).
