(52,253 posts)he's not fundamentally tied to any particular story, other than that he has to be the hero, the great one, or the righteous victim or outrageous attacks.
i'm not sure he really "believes" anything he says. he just puts favorable stories out there and then demands validation and support and punishes anyone who doesn't agree.
what i mean is that he doesn't much care about the story itself. he cares that people admire him and don't disagree with him.
what people disagree with him about, he doesn't much care. it just the fact that they disagree with him that angers him.

(16,616 posts)It sort of freaks me out that it's probably unknowable. BBC World Radio ran a program called "Why Does Donald Trump Lie?" and the main guest, a psychotherapist who wrote about this, admitted he couldn't tell either.
I'm leaning towards "He believes it when it comes out of his mouth but not before or after."
