test. It had a list of misspelled words, which we were supposed to correct. One of the words was:

Pervent

I couldn't resist, so I corrected it to "Pervert." The teacher, who was used to my sometimes odd and playful responses, wrote on the test: "While you are correct, your answer worries me. That is not the word I had in mind."

Had we done so, I would have told her that I chose "Pervert" in its verb form, not its noun form, since she clearly referred to a verb in her misspelled word on the test.

We got along very well, my sixth grade teacher and I. She allowed me a lot of slack, within some limits. She also handed me books on various subjects to read, to keep me busy and out of trouble.
