General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI woke up this morning with a sense of impending excitement.
Yesterday evening, I started seeing hints of possible breakthroughs in the Trump impeachment story. Now, this morning, I'm waiting breathlessly for the Pelosi/Schiff presser at 10:45 and the IG's "surprise urgent briefing" of congressional committee staffers later in the day.
And then, of course, one never knows what Trump will tweet during the day.
There is much promise in this morning.

This morning Pelosi press conference is something. Also may be getting ahead of IG session this afternoon. Create some opening lines for closed session post commentaries to use in a veiled way.
The info deluge is overwhelming, as some here have noted.

(6,254 posts)keeps dropping like it has, I dont think the possibility of Dotard being removed from office is out of the question. The entire house of cards will come tumbling down should Fox turn on Trump. As long as Fox has his back his base will continue to be misled and misinformed. The question is what can we do to push Fox into reporting real news. How can we coordinate to make it known that Fox and its advertisers will suffer worse by continuing to prop up this traitor of a president. I see that James Murdochs wife seems to be attempting to be distance herself from Fox. As more people start believing that Trump is a real criminal there has to be a point where financially speaking the balance tips away from Trump and it is no longer financially in their interest to continue to prop up this moron of a president.

(12,165 posts)Hes terrified and using Twitter to vent. He should talk to a therapist, instead.
He is a coward who thinks his words are magical incantations.
Its driving Trump bananas that he cant control Congress and others in government with his thoughts.

(9,893 posts)I can't help but think this is the beginning of an even more toxically partisan period in American politics. I was HOPING Trump might lose in 2020 to somebody relatively uncontroversial and maybe we could settle down and some of the partisan energy could dissipate and we could return to actually getting things done in our government instead of blocking change because of whose idea it is.
If Trump is impeached, whether or not he is convicted, the hate will just intensify. I expect the next couple Democratic Presidents will face at least investigations into impeachment just to get back at us. And they will be so blocked up by Congress it will make Obama look like he had free reign. After this I think we will need to focus more on Congress. The President, whoever he or she is from either party, will be completely hobbled without both houses of Congress from his party.

(146,317 posts)Is that disruptive? Perhaps, but not as disruptive as Trump is in office. Our Constitution offers a way to rid ourselves of a toxic President. Such a situation was anticipated at the time that document was written. Three Presidents have been part of an impeachment process. None were removed from office through that process. One resigned. Another failed to win re-election for another term, and the third was acquitted and finished his second term.
Now, we're doing it again, a fourth time. Impeachment is part of our system. We're just using that part of the system once again.
We'll survive this, because it exists as a last resort method for removing a President. Since the process exists, it will be used from time to time. It helps keep us a free nation, impeachment does.

(25,471 posts)Most people - the vast, vast majority - made up their minds about Trump years ago.
The country isn't going to be any more divided on Trump - or in general - than it already is if he's impeached. It's been polarized for decades and was just as divided during the Obama administration, if not more so. It's just more obvious now, in part because of social media.
