Wow....the New York Times just now

Mr. Trump’s brazen attempt to cheat his way into a second term stands so scandalously exposed that there can be no assurance of a fair election if he’s allowed to stay in office.
Resolving the question of the president’s fitness at the ballot box isn’t really an option, much less the best option, when the question boils down to whether the ballot box will be stuffed.

When will folk ever understand the difference between an editorial (written by the paper’s official Editorial Board, separate from the paper’s news reporting), an opinion column (written on a regular basis by the paper’s regularly employed opinion writers, whether right or left leaning), and an op ed (contributed by people, famous or not, who have nothing to do with the paper, on a one-time basis).

The guy who wrote this is vice president for research at the Niskanen Center. He doesn’t represent the Times (though in this case, they most probably agree with his opinion).

Mr. Trump has supplied American voters with overwhelming reason to doubt that any election he participates in can be fair. That’s why he can’t be allowed to run for any public office, much less the presidency, ever again.

The president’s infamous call with Mr. Zelensky took place the day after the special counsel Robert Mueller testified before Congress about his inquiry into the Trump campaign’s contacts with Russia and Russian interference in the 2016 election.
<snip>

If the House goes through with impeachment but the Senate acquits, Mr. Trump’s lawlessness will have been lavishly rewarded. He will take it as a signal that absolutely anything goes. - NYT

She was on with Lawrence and I think she's exactly right. Dems should bring multiple articles of impeachment, even if it means this process takes a little longer. Make Republicans condone multiple crimes. And don't send the message that Trump's other crimes are okay. Take the time to make the case overwhelmingly strong.

And, again, if we let other crimes slide, what does that say? What precedent does that set?

Furthermore, the stronger the case, the more likely we are to get the attention and support of more people who either don't always vote or vote but don't always pay close attention to politics.

Make it really, really hard on McConnell and the other Republicans in the US Senate to defend their dear leader.

The entire laundry list of impeachable offenses trDump has committed since day one.

Then trDump's entire criminality will be voted on pertaining to impeachment in the House and removal by the Senate. An added bonus is that trDump's illegality will be recorded and the many ways he defiled the office of the presidency will be recorded for the history books and not soon forgotten, ignored, or readily repeated again by future holders of the office.

These greasy sleaze bags defile the oath of office, defile the office of the president, defile our Democracy, defile our elections and voting systems, and lie, cheat, pilfer, plunder, and smear anyone who blocks their way. It is about time America take a stand against this creeping Fascism.

that could be determined were crimes, making multiple counts regarding impeachment should be a piece of cake. Then watch the Republicans vote against finding him guilty. Let them wear that into the next election like a wet blanket around their shoulders, especially if the evidence is as plain as the phone call to Ukraine evidence. Make it clear before things get under way that if they let him off, they will live to regret it.

Hair has been on fire since Comey, Wray, Coates, Mueller all told us UNDER OATH that the election is being messed with "as we sit here".

Cannot count on the election to ride ourselves of Trump.

and the recent legislation that McConnell allowed is a sop to the election services industry, not mandating security measures.

getting the mileage it should be.

No point having an election when the results may be questionable.

How about:
1. Dealing with Trump and his cronies.
2. Installing a temporary interim non partisan caretaker government.
3. Working on firewalling the next election. Paper ballots, hand counted, with security all the way, would do it nicely.
4. Put the vote into practise.

A 2 year hiatus between this quagmire and the next government being sworn in would do it nicely.

Nothing in the Constitution to say this can't happen.
